Guessing you didn't catch the "no" in my humorous answer. It definitely sees a drop in MPG and feels like it has less go-go squirrels running on the whirly gig, but I can still turn my 35s at ~2750 rippums holding 70mph.

    Hey there everyone!

Long time visitor, first time post. I'll get right to it...

Running (limping, actually) a 2012 TRD OR 160k with Code 2442, limp mode. Spoke with Toyota Corporate this morning and it has been brought to my attention that the Customer Support Program ZHA has been elevated to a Special Service Campaign ref code 20TC01. My truck is now covered for repairs and I have scheduled a service appointment later this month.

Apologies if this is old news, but in the event there are others unaware of this, I just wanted to post ASAP. More to come....

I’m curious to know if Toyota is replace these faulty pumps with a better designed unit or are they putting the same old crap back in, only to happen again later? I’m glad I put the Hewitt Tech kit in years ago but it would be nice to know if Toyota has developed a permanent fix.

Hey Guys, I know it's a long shot, but figured I'd ask. So my 2012 has had the entire air intake system replaced at roughly 50,000 miles, that was about 5 years ago. I did the whole P2440 code, limp mode crap, and ultimately was lucky enough to get the system replaced by dealership.
My question is this: Now I just hit 100,00 miles, and guess what, possibly round 2!?! So far no codes have popped up yet, but as I start up my truck, whether I'm in gear or idle, I can hear a very faint sound which sounds like a small valve opening and shutting. I cannot pinpoint where the sound is coming from but its very faint, and lasts about 2 seconds. It seems to be happening more frequent, give or take once every 5 minutes. I know it's almost impossible to describe in text, but knowing what I know about the air intake system, my first thought went there.
Has anyone heard this sound prior to getting the P2440 code popping? Or any sound for that matter that involved the air intake?

Mine is easy to hear operating every cold start up. It’s a whine of the pump followed by a “whoosh” as it winds down.

I totally know what you mean by that sound, I also hear that at each cold start. The different noise I am hearing now is in addition to that, and only lasts for 2-3 seconds, and happens intermittently while driving or while parked.
My unprofessional first guess would have been a fuel pump, but knowing what we know about the air intake valve, I am swayed toward that for some reason.

This morning I got the trac off and engine light on the dash. I got a 2012 Tacoma 4 cylinder with 161,000 miles. I called with the vin # and I have no recalls. Is there anything else I can do?

I don’t think the 4 cylinder is part of the warranty enhancement program.

Crigg - WOW! That is crazy, the 4cylinders are not a part of the recall, but the same problem still exists for your truck too?
My latest, not to rub it in, I actually just had them install all new parts again for the 2nd time! I just hit 100k, and like clockwork, my P2442 code popped. But the dealership replaced all parts 100% free, without even a question. It took 2 hours, and I have a new pump from the one we all got in 2012. The filter system looks different too. Manager told me it's a "new design" and that it shouldn't happen again at 150k.
Our recall ends in January 2022, so I'm glad the code popped this month!

Well, 2012 with 89k miles just hit me with these lights and no go-go stuff. Any hills I’m topped at 25 MPH… gonna call the local dealership and hope there’s something they can hook me up with.
