Oh no…this big flat surface to protect, how will we ever address this.

I suppose it could be worse, it could be open under there with a bunch of random easily broke the things around that like to get snagged on stuff on the trail….

Yes, a jerry can doesn’t hold electricity. Weird how gasoline CAN make electricity on the trail, and electricity can NOT make gasoline while on the trail.

If you tried this hard to identify the shortfalls in a gas car you may have a less biased opinion

It’s almost like having brownouts is an indication the grid needs to be updated NOW. What better driver to do so…

Yes yes, the one who understands the term SCALE is the idiot….

oh look, look at all those electric cars, all those electric cars that are just as common as gas cars.

Clearly making a few electrics is EXACTLY THE SAME as making millions upon millions of gas cars.

looks like I made a point someone doesn’t like.

Edit, oh fuck, it’s you again. Came along to troll some more. Or did you forget to breath through your nose again…
This isn’t that complicated, do you need me to put it in a Facebook meme so you can read it?

Out of all the pickups across all brands sold now, how many actually get modded to hell and back? A handful, a couple specks of sand in the big scheme of things? Most trucks sold today are used to run back and forth to work, haul the kiddies around, with the occasional couple bags of mulch Home Depot runs.

Highly doubt that Rivian’s target market is going to be the client who is going mod the shit out of it, most likely they’ll have a disposable income, if they are into off-roading it will be used as a tow rig for other toys such as SXS, ATVs, and motorbikes.

Have been off-roading since I was kid, have witnessed many a fad…and what is taking over is SXS for the masses as majority of people can’t be bothered with messing about in the garage building crap, much rather have something turn key so they can go out and enjoy it. Hell, I switched from trucks/jeeps to dirt bikes years ago, since no matter how much time or money you throw at a truck or Jeep, it can’t even begin to dream where you can take a dirt bike. I didn’t buy my Tacoma to mod the shit out of it, it will remain stock for said reasons above. Buddy of mine asked me if was going to turn my 1st Gen into a rock crawler, I laughed and said no, not really into rock crawling, find it boring much rather be on the bike.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

Lol... ok let's go point by point.

You would have to protect the ENTIRE underside. Not just a few things like IFS, Trans, tcase, etc. That lowers the already abysmal ground clearance, and adds a considerable amount of weight to an already extremely (relative to size) vehicle.

But more importantly... I notice how you completely ignored the fact that the vehicle is relatively limited in terms of being modified for "off road"

The fact that gas can make electricity and electricity can't make gas is kind of partially the point.

There are more shortfalls to an electric car than a gas car. If you'd stop trying so hard to convice yourself an electric car will do things it wont, maybe you would see that.

So, your answer is put the cart (more draw on the grid) before the horse (update the grid).

You're definately the typical type that would drive an EV. That's for sure.

Not many new trucks get modded to hell and back, but some do. And the point of the thread is the Rivian 4wd (and more broadly EV 4wd) are "the future." If they are, in fact "the future" they would need to be fully middified to be even somewhat capable of doing any more than a well groomed fire road.

You're anecdotal story about how you switched to motorbikes has nothing to do with the entire premise of the thread that EV 4wd is "the future." And neither do side by sides... because THAT would mean EVs are in fact NOT "the future" of 4wd... it would say "the future" is new vehicles wont be capable and people will need to choose an alternative.

Seems to me like you keep ignoring the fact that Rivian isn’t targeting customers that are looking to modify their vehicles for off road.

Seems to me you're ignoring the point of the thread is that EV 4wd (Rivian in this case/thread) is "the future" of 4wd.

Whether it be Rivian, Tesla, or any of the others... if they are to be "the future" of 4wd... they have to be capable off-road... and they aren't... and they wont be, in any near term situation.

"The future" doesn't imply specific, targeted, customer base of only soccer moms, commuters, and circle jerkers on the internet that get annoyed when facts are submitted that dont support the group think.

Think you’re taking Rivian the “Future of 4WD” a little too literal.

EVs are the future, doesn’t matter what the platform is, or how capable it is. Whether it is 1WD, 2WD, 4WD…a basic pickup, SXS, ATV, bike, whatever you can dream up will be electric. ICE powered vehicles will eventually die out. The government is going to work hard to make them obsolete or they’ll become so expensive to operate the masses won’t be able to afford to keep them fueled. Not sure if it will happen in my lifetime, but probably in 50 years majority of vehicles will be electric is my bet. Of course we are supposed to have flying cars by now too…

You need to expand your thinking. If their customer doesn’t fall into a stereotype then you don’t understand who they are selling to?
There will be conversion kits to totally convert an ICE vehicle to an EV for those that are attached to their ICE vehicles.
And obviously a “soccer mom” would buy the R1S, their SUV (and this thread is exclusively about the R1T).
