Wasn't given a schedule, really more like "if you can knock these out" sort of thing

Wonder where I'm supposed to park; so I parked outside the shop

I'll get to everyone that congratulated me and posted once I'm done closing up shop.

@Kwikvette Does a 3rd Gen T4R have a split drive shaft and center bearing with double cardan joint like a Taco?

I don't see a long angled drive shaft hanging down to the read diff that will cause it to high center like this one. I wonder if it uses a split drive shaft to provide more clearance.

I'm fairly certain the T4R uses a split drive shaft with carrier bearing. I think the only Tacomas that don't are the single cabs

As Ryan stated, it's split just like the Tacoma.

Convenient because parts like the carrier bearing and more interchange.

Thank you EVERYONE here that's listened to me about my welding, given me constructive criticism, and just straight rooted for me to succeed.

The job came about by accident in a sort of way.

So, when I got home, my FIL called my MIL (he's gone Mon-Fri as a truck driver) and they chatted and hung up. Few minutes later, he calls back asking if I'm home.

Tells me I should check out this fabrication shop in town as they need a welder(s).

I show up and come to find out, my FIL's brother works there in sales. I don't really know him as we only met in passing and he doesn't know much about me but I was introduced to the owner and asked to do an informal interview. Afterward, the owner takes me around and walks me to the shop where the one and only welder fabricates their stuff.

He asks that I run some stuff on MIG, and low and behold he's super impressed.

Tells me they fabricate stuff like tables, etc. (outdoor stuff) and currently have a govt contract for these tables that need to get done.

Some legal stuff going on with their fabricator, and so the only guy that has any welding experience has been helping (he works in the warehouse). They've needed a 2nd welder for awhile now apparently, but now I'll be taking place of the main fabricator too. The owner knows how to weld/fabricate so he and the main guy make jigs to make production easy.

Was told 'whenever I can start...' to which I answered 'I can start right now' and that was that.

    So...am I a 'welder' now? :anonymous:

    @GHOST SHIP

Just had to show off a T and lap weld and that was it.

Since the welds are underneath, they just need to be strong and hold.

    And thank you sir!

    Too accurate right?

3rd genners would be butt-hurt as fuck; if only they could read.

At the moment, helping finish the parts to make all these tables before they get glued together!

    Thank you!

But yes, the plan is/was to work only after we moved. But I'm not going to say no to an opportunity to work in an environment that I said I wanted to work in!

A small, locally owned fabrication shop where I can work and be left alone to do so.

It's exactly how today worked out, and tomorrow too.

It still needs to get finished; they just moved it over from the next building over.

Safe was empty, I looked for you. I got my own bathroom which is nice :anonymous:

Got to check out some cool ass equipment!

    Thank you!

Zane, meant to add you to the list of tags but the service is bad inside the shop :anonymous:

Part of it was luck, and the rest is knowing the right people at the right time!

Had to cut and drill a ton of angled steel today so the hands are a tiny bit sore.

    Thank you though!

Different rods require different heat :luvya:

Bold to assume I know what I'm doing :luvya:

Different rods 'burn' and 'freeze' at different rates, and have different tensile strengths.

6010 is what you use as a root weld.

7018 is a fast freeze, used as a filler.

They lay differently at different heat settings.

    Thank you!

And you didn't even tag me :luvya:

    Thank you!
    Thank you!

I'm only now filling out the employer paperwork, so technically it's not 'official' even though I put in 4hrs of work.

I do need to place a contingency as we have 2-3 vacations planned out this month alone but I was told not to worry.

No it's a one piece with a DC joint after the transmission/t case and a slip yoke by the diff

Of the 20? or so 3rd gens I've been around I've never seen one with a carrier bearing

Both my 4 runners and all my buddies' and all the fbmp prospects were like that... Never seen one that wasnt

The drive shaft stays up and out of the trail. Unlike mine that high centers and turns into a rotary grinder.

    Oof

The wheelbase of your LC, is it as long as say...a double cab Taco?

My buddy @Taco-Obsessed runs into the issue that, when he climbs a large obstacle, the tail end of his driveshaft has a possibility of hitting shit.

Even on 35s, you can see just how close it comes into contact -

Do you hit your cross member?

    The one past the skids?

    I have before :anonymous:

I'd hate to add weight, but I may need something a bit longer than the one @eon_blue gave me, or really just an extension of it.
