Anything welding

I promise someday I’ll post a picture of something else besides boring sliders. But finished another set today

 

Whipped up a Hi Lift rock slider adapter really quick for one of my TWSS gifts

 

Show the DFX, the plasma cutting, bending and weld pics.

This is like only watching the last 5 minutes of a movie. No one knows how the thing developed.

Amirite?

 

I get in a groove when I’m making something and I usually forget to take pics along the way showing the process. Need to be better about that for sure haha

 

Not exactly welding related but it is fabrication related.

my girlfriend says buying tools gives me joy and I’m good at spending money on old junk I don’t need so I’m making these “hub tools” to help pay for more tools and car parts lol. Something I made for myself but ended up getting a ton of interest from people asking me to make more.

I know Toyotas don’t typically have hard to turn hubs but yukon hubs are notorious for being hard.

They are made from 1 3/4 6061 Aluminum bar stock. They’re roughly 3 inches tall with 2 inches of knurling and a slot big enough to go into the locking hubs and turn.

If anyone else runs hubs and they’re hard to turn and needs one let me know. Or if your Toyota hubs are hard to turn or get frozen in the winter etc, shoot me the measurements and I can make some for Toyota hubs.


Otherwise just a cool project I’m having fun making and practicing on.

Turned them on the lathe for a good finish. Added the knurling. Then went over to the mill and milled a slot for the locking hub.

I wouldn’t say I have “room” for them but I rearranged the garage a bunch and made them fit. I just picked up a marching drill press as well with no real place to put it lol. I need a bigger garage or a shop for that matter really

 

The more room ya have the more ya fill it! I need a shop too lol

 

I don't have any need for one but just wanted to say what a cool idea. I could see this being even more useful in winter because I imagine it's even more difficult to turn hubs with gloves on.

 

I made something similar 20 years ago when my wife got her 1s gen with manual hubs.

I just took an old big socket and ground out notches and welded a log bolt across the top.

Yours are much nicer.

Im not even sure her hubs are locked or not. She drives it twice a year. Sad

 

I've been meaning to make one of these myself. Seems like a super quick and fun project.

 

I still wonder if it's the same set you keep posting.

On a serious note, it looks like you have a great one man production line setup. Keep it up!

 

After making a dxf file for them on the plasma table they only take around 20 mins to make from start to finish now. They’re pretty easy. Post pics when you make yourself one!

Thanks man, I appreciate it. I realize it’s the same product over and over again but I’m still enjoying it the same because I’m just continuing to try to get quicker and better at the process and it’s a project that helps me hone my skills to get better at fabricating in general

 

Is it 1/8" steel? I don't have access to a plasma table so I figure making it out of square tube would be a much easier jump off point.

 

Yeah it’s 1/8” steel

I used to make them just like that out of square tube. It’ll work just as well

Then it just be the way I look at things.

From the olden days just get a sketch of the complete item and be told make this.

 

When planning to build a shop figure twice as big as you thought but it will still be to small.

If you have the space you will fill it up!
