I’ve replaced the booster, MC and calipers in the last 3 months. Just did the calipers yesterday. Truck was braking fine all day but they just started sticking again. They booster was delivered in three pieces but was easy to put back together so that’s what I did so could it be that or just another bad set of calipers? Both front wheels are sticking so I don’t think it could be the calipers but no clue. Thanks for any insight.

Did you bench bleed the MC? Have you done a brake fluid flush? ABS could also have air in the system. Some other guys can chime in.

When you say sticking I'm asuming you mean dragging?
Did you get the booster and master cylinder set up correctly so there's a slight amount of free play?

Absolutely bench bled. Everything worked great for about 20 or so stops then the ole seize started again. I mean I could try to bleed again I suppose

Yes followed everything to the book. The fact that both new calipers are sticking tells me that it’s not them so no clue where to begin since everything is practically brand new

If they stick consistently you can crack brake lines loose one at a time starting at the master cylinder and work your way down to the calipers, if they release when you crack a line you found your problem area.

I’m waiting on them to stick again so I can crack the bleeder to see how the flow of fluid is but they’re free right now but I’m sure they’ll stick again soon. Going to make sure pads move with ease in meantime, thx fellas

I have replaced two aftermarket MCs in the last few months, both seized about 2 inches in and finally am going back to oem. This mixed with warn drums was causing my sticking recently. If you bought aftermarket, check your MC again.

Will do. I no longer shop with Orielys but that’s where I bought the first one. It was faulty out of the box. Took it back but could only get a replacement. Surely I haven’t gotten two bad ones in a row but I wouldn’t be surprised. I know my way around most vehicles but I’ve never had this much trouble out of a simple taco brake system. The new mc seemed to work fine so I’m guessing it’s the damn booster that came in three pieces when shipped. Hell idk, working fine this morning but they’ll stick again I’m sure. Thx

You are better off with eurozone than o'Reilly's. I went to a o'Reilly's recently for spark plugs. They do not carry ngk or denso, which leads me to believe that they sell gmail. Chevy and ford oem/aftermarket parts.

Yeah like I stated I no longer do business with them. Most auto chain stores are trash but my local advance has great customer service at least so I do get oil and other fluids there but that’s about it.

When your brakes are sticking crack the bleeder on the caliper, if it releases pressure then it could be your brake hoses. If the brake fluid only drips and your caliper does not release then it is your caliper. Brake hoses when they age or wear can act like a one way valve holding pressure.

    As a thought.......

Are the slide pins moving freely?

I had this on my motorcycle. The front brake would lock up. Took it apart many times from the MC to the caliper, bled countless times. Turned out to be gummed up slide pins. Removed them, cleaned the pin and bore, used a light film of brake grease, reassembled......problem gone.

IIRC, the caliper has pistons on 1 shoe only. The other shoe is stationary. So, slide pins allow the caliper to move accounting for pad wear.

Check your slide pins. Bleeding will only remove air in the system which is indicated by spongy brakes. If the brakes are firm, then air in the system is likely not the problem.

Tacoma's have no caliper slide pins (only the 2 steel pins that hold the pads in) as they have 4 piston calipers (2 on each side of the caliper) instead of 1 or 2 on one side like a conventional caliper setup.

Yeah.....I've got a brake job coming up. I haven't been in the brakes. Oh well, it was a thought.

It was a good thought, I see it pretty often on trucks but ours don't use them.

Hi, just my 0.02. This might work. Pump the brakes and hold the pedal down before you start the truck. Then once it is running release the brake pedal and pump again a few times. Then take for a test drive. Do this a few more times before you leave in your truck. Worked for me. My guess is it has something to do with computer/ABS/traction control system. Someone else might chime in with a way to reset it?

Came here to say this re the hoses. Wouldn't be the first time I have seen it, particularly where your truck is older it could be on the originals.
