Doug's review of the 2022 Tundra shows an interesting design detail - there looks to be extruded aluminum rails between the composite bed and the frame, distributing the load. It should alleviate the wear and subsequent shifting/rattle observed at the Tacoma's bed bolt areas:

The Tundra also get an electric fuel door popper now, right above the heated steering wheel switch.

I do hope rear disk brakes can be retrofitted on current axle tho, the only thing I'd like to have for ease of maintenance :fingerscrossed:

It'll be easier to retrofit existing 4Runner rear brakes to your axle, and that's still difficult/costly with the electronic booster master cylinder swap.

4th gen Tacoma, if it takes after the Tundra, likely won't have provisions for a mechanical parking brake.

I don’t think there is a need to swap it, isn’t it’s design takes the way where it is “adjustable” since we have A-TRAC (within reason of course) and running larger calipers at front and rear calipers at the back won’t affect performance as it’ll simply increase the pressure in the lines? May wear out quicker, but what doesn’t?

Maybe a hybrid approach. Scrap the rear driveshaft and axle. Install a 4link with electric hub motors. Pack the space between the frame with batteries and flat bottom the whole truck. Full torque vectoring for crawling is now possible. Everything is sealed so no maintenance. Motors are brakes. And no driveshaft to get in the way.

You will also have all the watts for your microwave, Ron pipeil showtime rotisserie, and easy bake oven.

So basically Rivan or a much better looking H4? Sounds expensive, can also electrocute all the fish for the dinner when doing water crossings :anonymous:

Even better, your keeping the engine and the FWD. The hybrid approach should cut a lot of cost of batteries. Motors are cheap(ish).

Higher fluid volume at the caliper (vs. drum brake wheel cylinder) means noticeably more pedal travel before the brakes engage, so you end up with even shittier pedal feel. I already notice this with the larger 4Runner brakes - it's the compromise of spending <$1000 on 4Runner OE parts vs. $3000 for a StopTech kit actually designed for the Tacoma. The 4Runner MC has larger pistons to match the increased fluid volume.

The booster is definitely needed to swap and get good brakes. I know with my 4Runner big brake upgrade the pedal fee is crap.

As for rear brakes, based on the rear brake thread a bigger booster is needed.

I know the tundra or sequina booster is a great upgrade and it’s pretty much bolt in other then.

For the price of rear brakes on these trucks, it’s not even worth it for the performance gain.
