Driving a Tacoma around the world

Hey sorry, who would have thought that just outside of Cambridge England we would have bad internet! We left Zagreb, Croatia just before Thanksgiving and quickly drove thru Slovenia and Austria and had Thanksgiving with our niece and her husband in Ansbach, Germany.



After leaving Ansbach we drove to Calais, France and while along the way took a break at the Heidelberg castle. This is an interesting picture of how thick the walls are

 

Just noticed you have an Oregon plate. How did you get your vehicle to the other side of the world?

 

That's one of the reasons we installed a snorkel!


Just joking. We put it on a roll on/roll off ship from Baltimore to Liverpool, England. Was actually quite easy with no damage. Cost was about 1,800 USD

Feeling like we just dropped off a kid at college...now in London until Sunday



Dropped it off at my wife's English relatives house going to park it for 3 or 4 months. Thinking of flying to the Philippines for a month after Christmas in Central Oregon. Hoping for a cheap place until next spring

 

curios, you overinflated the tyres a bit before leaving it? little flat spot prevention, arguable if it works or not...

 

Yes I did! Added another 5 lbs to each tire. I also disconnected the truck battery, turned the camper power off, and filled the gas and propane tanks.

 

Also heard that air loss from tires causes the TPMS wireless sensors to wear out their batteries

Hi Ryan. Ya crazy! Took the truck to a repair shop near an American Air Base in England where they have experience with the Tacomas. The tech ran diagnostics which showed, I would guess, at least 40 communication failures between various modules; stability control, cruise control, etc which threw the check engine lights. Total cost of $60.

While fixing a flat, another shop noticed that a bolt had fallen off the front anti-sway bar which tore a CV boot, that cost a cool $1,000,

 

Sounds like it’ll be a good break! And just enough time to really start missing the four wheel home

 

Here’s a picture of the map on our Tacoma‘s hood. From July to December of this year we drove 13,000 miles and went in a general clockwise manner.

We shipped our truck to England but quickly drove thru it and France. Spending time in Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. With our 90 day visa limit coming quickly, we drove zipped thru Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary where we explored Romania, Moldova, and Bulgaria. Crossing back into the EU, we quickly drove across Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, and Germany to England where we left the truck.

Only on an island would you see a Smart police car. Can you imagine in the US mainland? How many low speed chases this officer would have to endure?

Thank you! The truck is hibernating under tarps for a couple of months in England while we visit with family while waiting for Britain to warm up a bit.

 

Is there a spot I can see your Finland pics? All of my aunts uncles and cousins live there. Had a nice zoom call with them all at Christmas.

Thanks! I wish we could cross/join paths. That trip sounded a bit dicey. Have you considered a satellite texting service. We carry a Garmin inreach which allows for world-wide texting for about $25 per month
