Labor is up because people need to make a living.
My hourly rates are $100.00 +, depending on what needs fixed.

Keep in mind this is in CAD so $14k USD. Dissembling the truck and repainting with House of Kolor paint. It could have been done for less if someone wanted.

Do an inspection of your vehicle. Everything that's blue now needs to be prepped and painted if you are doing a true full on color change.

    Door jambs, underhood, etc etc.

Now look at all the stuff that has to come apart for that to be done right. Lots and lots of stuff.

And now your paint code won't match the paint, should you have a buyer someday who cares. Just a point, not a big deal.

So, to get it right, at a crackerjack shop,

If you're that hot for a color selling/trading is the route.

If you're really hot for 4wd, selling/trading is also the route. Conversions can be done, and they don't appear to be tragic, but if you're paying to have it done............

If you do a earl scheib or Marco paint job, they just do the outside and the door jams if you pay extra. What they don't tell you, that by doing that, you cut the resale value in half. The truck needs to be stripped down and all metal surfaces prepped and painted.

Color matters little in the process.

Although, color can impact cost and application.

    Pearls are expensive.
Flakes are a little less expensive.
    Solids are the least expensive.

The color alone is not the big cost. The big cost comes from all the other liquids needed, reducers, catalyst, flateners, primer, clear..........

my answer is like that, if You want to keep your truck - repaint it, cost doesn't matter, if You want to just paint yoyr truck and care about money - just sell it. My opinion is like that - money means notning, if You really want to do it - just go for it!

A complete color change, disassemble, jams, under the hood I say $10K to $12K done correctly and the paint today would be $1500 at least.

Yes, it will work. Take it to a recommended body/paint shop and it will come out better than a new one!

Although you didn’t ask about $, you sure got a lot of opinions. :)

Yes! I like this. Sometimes I think if people spent the energy they do on cutting cost and instead on making money, they would be better off.

Don’t do it. You’re resale value is gonna suck if they miss anything. Also you are going to disturb all the factory installed glass and seals. You run the risk of the shop breaking tabs and creating multiple leak points. Also your resale, value will take a hit. I recently sold my 1st gen that had a custom paint job. Despite the paint being perfect and properly done. Still got low balled at the dealer when trying to trade it in.
