I'm 6ft and camp in the bed of my ACLB. I absolutely enjoy it, esp in the cold or bad weather.

Funny how opinions work huh. I think the DCLB looks like a stretched wiener dog.

OP I think only you can make the call. I originally was going to get the DCLB because I wanted to haul my snowmobile in the back like I did with my F150. Once I realized it wouldn't fit between the wheel wells I went with the DCSB and decided to use my trailer all the time. I'm sure you can find someone in the local section of the forums here to test fit you in a 6 foot bed and see if it works for you or not.

    I have a 2020 DCLB, came from a 2015 Silverado DC. IMHO:
    1. SB bed is great for hauling gear, but tacoma beds are short in height . Thus, for hauling lumber, mulch, etc the LB just stores more
    2. I doubt 2 average Americans will be comfortable for long in either the SB or LB because it is narrow - especially if one's companion isn't really into a little discomfort for the outdoors.
    3. RTT have pros and cons (I have an ikamper) and for me and my family it is the way to go. Way more comfortable when sleeping. Keep in mind I bought a garage lift so I can pull it off quickly if I need to haul something like an appliance. If you don't have a lift, suddenly either SB or LB becomes a lot less useful.
    4. If rock crawling then the SB is the way to go. OW Lb is fine offroad in most situations. I spent 2 weeks this year in the West - no problems 4x4'ing
    5. The SB looks way cooler IMHO. For utility, I went with the LB
    6. Factory lift only available for SB not LB.
    7. MT only in SB AFAIK for 2022
Keep us posted and also - how available are 2022 DCLB?

Well look online or call to see who has them. Before making this big of a purchase you should know what you want as well. Now, I know its hard to find them in person. I had to get my DCSB over the phone, a month before its build date. Just adding a recommendation. Go and find one ect.

    I went with the DCSB
    I love it
I had questioned over the first year of ownership whether I should have gotten a LB, more room for bikes was my big reason, the sleeping thing would be a bonus I guess but I don't mind tents or hammocks. If I got a shell it would be nice, but I can't see going that route anyway.

Then my wife got rear ended in it and it went to the body shop for a few weeks. The gave me a DCLB loaner.
    I hated it.
    Turning radius was awful
Stuck too far out in parking lots
    felt ackward
I can't comment on ride differences as mine is an Off-Road and they gave me a SR5 so very different ride anyway.
And sometimes I tow a trailer, an extra foot would make it hard to get in some of the spots I've managed to squeeze into.

I was very happy to get back in the short bed.

If I was not a family man I might consider an access cab long bed

The OP cannot physically see one and is asking for info here. I don't get what is hard to understand here? Doesn't seem to be a difficult concept to grasp.

#6: plenty of aftermarket offerings. No need to worry about the overpriced factory spacer lift.

I'm in this same boat. I needed it to fit in the garage, otherwise I would want to maximize the amount of truck my truck has... or kept the F150.

Listen man I’m just tossing in my suggestion. Nothing about a concept I cannot grasp.

Furthermore, if he can’t find one how can it be expected to be able to by one.

My f150 was far nicer, and a lot bigger and I liked that. BUT, i needed it parked inside with the car because I like to garage my stuff. The car was a new edition so it changed things.

OP, let’s keep it simple for your decision making process:

    1. LB is far more useful, hauling, camping under a bed cap, etc. I’ve owned two SBs and sometimes long for the extra space…pun intended.

    2. LB is worse offroad, far more difficult. Every trail I hit makes me happy I’m in a SB.

If you’d like to camp in it and carry more gear, get the LB, just know you’ll need to limit the type of terrain you traverse, and there’s totally nothing wrong with that. If a rich uncle dies and leaves you some coin, put that LB on a long travel with 35s and the wheel base won’t matter one bit.

They make DCLB in the sport also.

Cool. Didn't know that. The longer wheel base just rode smoother to me. Maybe the sport will ride a bit stiffer but the LB tends to smooth things out I think. It was night and day difference to me when I compared it to the SB in the same trim.

Longbed for me only. ACLB until my kids got too tall and now DCLB. For my solo trips and wheeling the AC was great but need the bigger cab nowadays. Long bed is a must and much harder to find from my experiences.

    ACLB > DCLB > DCSB

If you do a lot of camping and you want to have the option of sleeping in the bed, you'll want a LB. I mix it up a lot between sleeping in the bed, ground tent, and hammock... for those spur of the moment solo over-nighters where the forecast is clear, it's great to be able to just drive into camp and roll out a pad and quilt in the bed. With a SB that's not really an option for most people.

Also consider that 4 people require more gear than 2 people, if you have a DC full of passengers then you'd be hard-pressed to fit all of their gear in a SB unless you're going full minimalist/backpacking.

While you technically lose some off-road capability with a DCLB, 99% of the time it won't be enough to make a difference. Get some traction boards and that probably bumps it up to 99.9%. You might have to do the ol' reverse-forward-reverse dance slightly more often.
