Yeah I work about 55-60hrs/week on average and it’s just killing me when it comes to hobby stuff like lifting. I wake up at 4:30am for work and don’t get home till about 5:30. Walk then dogs and say hey to little man for a bit, then a 30 minute drive to gym so get there around 6:30. Train for a hour and half/2 hours and get home around 9.
Only leaves me about a hour/hour and half to hangout with wife and son a day IF I want to get 5-6 hours of sleep.
And it’s just really fcking with me because I want to spend more time with family than this

    Focus on what is important.

You know there are a lot of guys out there who do some pretty crazy shit in the fitness world. Like Cam Hanes seems like this bad ass on Youtube that runs 100 miles a week, lifts like a beast, works full time, has like 5 side businesses, and hunts in the wilderness every chance he gets.

I don't mean to be a dick but I bet the dude isn't the greatest husband or dad. I know I couldn't be married to the guy.

Being exceedingly successful at certain things in life usually means doing so at the expense of other things. We can't be 100% at everything. Time and energy are limited resources.

There is nothing wrong with prioritizing anything in life you want to do, but set your own priorities and apologize to no one. You only have one life.

You are also very young, plenty of time to have fun with strongman.

Yeah I couldn’t imagine sacrificing that much time with family for a sport unless it was basically a job that provided for them.

Good news everyone. I jumped on the scale this morning after being too afraid to recently, and I only need to lose 15lbs in 8 weeks, not 20.

My fat pants were getting tight and so I figured shit got way more out of control than that.

I know most folks in here are not climbers but if you are generally interested in extreme fitness documentaries this one is excellent:

Talking about labs. Anyone used Merek Health? Have heard about them via the Gorilla Mind preworkout company.

This is why I do what I do, plus my schedule isn't conducive to a gym anyway.

Dude....being a good partner and father is way harder than lifting some heavy stuff. This sounds like the right decision and one which you will thank yourself for probably a bunch of times in your life. There's lots of ways to get to a healthy lifestyle and fitness is only one component of health...family is another huge part of that. Respect for making the call that is right for you man.

This. Have to be there for your lady & kids. You’ll probably have more free time at another time in your life to pursue hobbies & interests. Remember, it’s not an all or nothing thing....staying healthy is a life long endeavor. Keeping healthy & strong for your family and for life longevity is priority number one in my opinion. Aesthetics and strongman lifting come second imo. Stay healthy and happy...make sure your life has joy and you’re able to share that with those who you’re closest to.

That's a recipe for burnout man - for sure. I can't imagine you're making a lot of progress in the gym on 5-6 hours sleep, either. That time with your family can never be replaced.

Is it possible for you to get a home gym setup? Just a rack, a bench and some plates can go a long way. It won't prepare you for a strong man comp but maybe it keeps you strong enough that it's not too difficult to jump back in when the time comes.

I completely agree with you!! That's too much!! One question though, are you going to workout at all or saying F it to exercise in general?

I was gonna just get some 45’s and use my axle bar for home workout stuff and goto the gym whenever work slows down but my coach/buddy wants me to try a 3 day routine but just go full send for those 3 days to hopefully still make gains.

@weldertaco 3 days a week is what I’ve been doing a couple years now. It’s doable with extended hours and limited sleep like you mentioned. My general off season looks something like this:

    Day 1:
    Deadlift
    Deadlift accessory (RDLs usually)
    Push Jerk
Overhead accessory (Push presses or some other overhead variation)
    direct core work

    Day 2:
Conditioning and impenetrable work (Usually a carry medley or something like sandbag to shoulder, etc)
    -Lower body superset
    -Upper body superset

    Day 3:
    Squats
Squat accessory (belt squat machine or good mornings, etc)
    Strict press
    Strict press accessory
    Direct core work

Reps and intensity are typically as low as I can get away with and still make progress (65-85%ish) due to terrible recovery schedule. It’s not sexy and boring but it works for me.

They seem to be more health oriented rather then the majority of places just selling you shit.

Anyone here deal with plantar fasciitis and find something that helped you beat it?

This is a bitch of a problem. Its getting better but I’m impatient.

Its not a running related injury, its a strength related issue. Wondering if you guys know of any lifts/exercises that helped you beyond the typical stretches and calf raises.

I can’t stand the exercise bike anymore. LOL

I’ll ask my lady. She had it and said it was a B to deal with. Since she works in Physical Therapy & has personally been through it, her advice may be of help.
