I just picked up a set as well for this winter, same size. Been chomping at the bit to get them out in the snow!

This is the problem. I currently have Falken AT3W's on my GX and they absolutely suck in the snow. Been running them for 3 years in Central Oregon and when the snow/ice builds up on the roads, they absolutely blow. I've had a number of pucker moments with them. My wife was following me last year and watched me do an almost 360 on accident. That was with traction control and all other safety measures engaged. In my experience, they are NOT good with compact snow/ice.

All this churn over tires keeps leading me towards believing that I need to quit looking at a happy medium and to start looking more towards getting a dedicated set of snow tires (i.e. Blizzaks, Nokians etc) or even a set of studdable tires.

Weird my experience is really good with them. I’ve had Stt Pros and Stt maxxs. Haven’t tried ko2’s but have tried duratracs and while the traction was good I didn’t like the tire

I have STT Pro's on the Taco and they were pretty sketch on snow/ice as well. I figured that this was to be expected with a more dedicated mud terrain. I still haven't ruled out the studdable Duratrac option...

agree, the Falken AT3 are not good in low temperature and if you add snow to that, forget about traction. They are a decent all terrain tire, with an aggressive look, but In my experience, the Michelin LTX will outperform them in the snow, and is a better all around tire.

my opinion, if I’m not looking/needing an aggressive tire appearance, Michelin all day.

Thanks Mon. Kinda sad that I missed you this week. I was thinking that I was alone in thinking that AT3W's aren't good in snow. I'm now leaning toward buying an 18" or larger rim in order to facilitate a larger, dedicated snow tire. I've loved my Blizzaks in the past, I now just need to find a way to get some new ones that fit.

Bring from Vermont, and spending 25 years there before moving out here, I’ve encountered snow probably more than most. Deep snow, wet snow, powdery snow, seen it all. Being an avid skier, I see snow out here very often as well. I also used to ice race (Autocross) on Lake Champlain every winter I could, since I was 2 miles from the lake, with my Audi’s… old Audi’s… Not a rich mofo…

I can say straight up, for me at least, studs haven’t done shit for me on the road.. on ice, we’ll that’s a different story. I don’t care about studs, it’s all about the siping. I ran General Altimax Arctic’s and they were beasts. Blizzacks are the best I believe, but they have different tread compound about half way down the tread, then they suck. They don’t last for shit. Most straight up snow tires are great… for the snow. Studs for ice.

Any A/T tire most likely doesn’t perform well in cold, hard pack snow. The compound hardens too much. It does well in deep snow, and I’m pretty sure that’s all they test for 3 peak. Can my Tacoma get into deeper snow and get me out better than my Audi? Definitely can. But on normal roads, with 6-12” of snow, I’ll take my Audi w/ snows.
