I've noticed I can only find chi-com shear pins for my early 90s snapper blower. And those fucking things might as well be brass, I change at least 1 per use, they suck balls. The ones I used to be able to get from sears online were leaps and bounds better. So now I've got a pile of about 40 of the chi-com ones.

About to just put grade 8 bolts in vs shear pins like my old 1970s bobcat snothro.

A wise move regardless, I don't want to look at my damn snowblower when I don't have to use it

Makes sense. Their sense of raw material and heat treating is a little bit more ..... Relaxed.

Do and don't. Grade 8 might have a higher shear strength than the pins did - which is not great.

Need more details do you have an old shear pin still that you can measure the diameter of. Or do you have the model number. I've been in QA for 6 years you kidding me I get to put my engineering skills to use here yee haw! I can see if I can find something that's near the shear strength - hell it may be grade 8 bolts still.

Fair enough. I put my shovels out back in the winters too. Same idea.

She's cold out there this mornin boys!

I use standard grade bolts for shear pins. I did break one last year. It’s a 20+ year old snow blower, everything in it is steel. Shear pins are for peasant snow blowers. :stirthepot:

i understand the purpose of the shear and bought a dozen or so 2 packs last time I needed some. I’m just sick of having them break so often on just heavy snow. Ariens budget models aren’t built like their more expensive counterparts and have thinner pins.

Wife and I are finally starting to settle down in Charlotte I've learned 2 things these last 2 weeks...1) Apparently cockroaches getting indoors are a common problem down here this time of year and no one is the slightest bit bothered by that (disgusting) and 2) So far our fall/early winter lasted about 3 days around Thanksgiving and its been anywhere from 65-80 everyday this week. In other news, if anyone is down this way and wants tickets to a Charlotte Checkers game (AHL) let me know and I'll leave em for you at the box office

Quick question for y’all. I replaced my cig lighter socket with a usb-c and usb socket with a digital readout. Was working fine for a little over a year until a few days ago. Plugging in a regular usb cable shuts it off, and the usb-c port is intermittent. Any ideas what could possibly be wrong?

If anything, would it even be a good idea to hook up the OEM wires to a relay and draw power direct from the battery that way? In case those thin wires can’t handle all the juice.

I have a 24" Ariens snowblower. It works great but I don't use it very often. I figure the attachment would be the best of both worlds - it'd do a big wide pass like the ATV plow, but with the ability to throw snow like the small snowblower. I found some used ones for around $1k, but they were all far enough away where It'd be most of a day to go out and back and at that point with the gas factored in I figured I might as well just buy a new one. With chains and some suitcase weights, I think this machine (John Deere x500) would do it no problem, but then I'm up to $2k.

Mine is a 24" Simplicity, roughly 8HP. Paid $800-850 new in 2015. I was actually debating getting 1 more year from my old Ariens 20" 4HP but it was tired..and man if I had only got that one year from the Simplicity it was still worth it, that was the horrible winter. My old one wouldn't have made it out of the garage.

I refer to my driveway as 4x4. Can fit my truck and her Rav4 side by side, you could get 2 more cars behind that..and then maybe a motorcycle.

Agreed your example is about $2K there, on top of the tractor cost and the increased wear on it. As I see it, I'd rather put less wear on my tractor if possible because that would run me quite a bit more than $800 if I had to replace it new. That said I got mine about 10 years ago for $200 originally intending to use it as a donor for the one I inherited with a junk transaxle..turns out this one started right up when I tightened the spark plugs.

Wondering if anyone could maybe help me out. I have a horrible shake when braking. I just had the rear drums replaced and I measured the front rotors and they have under .002" runout. Has anyone had this issue or heard of a known issue that causes this? Edit. All stock sr5 with just a bed cap installed but has done it since before that went on.

Is the shaking coming from the front or the back? And does the vibration match your speed when you accelerate/decelerate?

Maybe a stuck caliper piston or rotors need turning.

Stuck caliper is what happened to mine. These are simply the most common reasons.
From there got to look at tires, how's your alignment? Worn bushings or ball joints?
