KM2 vs. Duratracs

So I'm gonna be getting new tires and have a few questions. I'm going with ome 3" lift and dakar leaf pack.

1) I want to run 285's but i'm worried about the trimming involved. What would you guys think would require less trimming? I'm thinking the duratracs just because they are not so meaty. It may not even make a difference....Opinion???

2) 75% on road, 25% off road. So what tires would last longer?

3) I live in Utah and will have to drive in snow. I heard KM2 are not the best but duratracs are amazing...opinions????

 

KM2s make no sense for you whatsoever.

 

if your running 285's on stock rims, I beleive you will need to change out UCA's but I could be wrong... I love my Duratracs and they actually run a little larger than normal!

 

You can't run 285's on stock wheels without spacers. And if you do get new wheels and 285's your going to need to do some cutting.

My Duratracts are at 33 1/4" so yes duratracks do run a little big

 

you dont wanna be driving in the snow with KM2s.i have a set on my beater buggy and they are garbage in the snow and ice. out of the two duratracs are definitly the better choice for you.

 

Yes I will also be getting new UCA's most likely light racing, and spidertrax 1.5" spacer. I'm mostly worried about the cab mounts, I dont wanna have to cut into them. Tirerack quotes the 285 duratracs at 32.8" and the km2 33.1"

 

you dont "have" to cut into them, they will just rub slightly. many members on here just get over the rubbing issue. if you dont care about the rubbing, then dont sweat it. they only will rub the cab mounts when the steering wheel is turned fully left or right anyways

 

I was also checking the weight on the Duratracs, Difference between 265 and 285 is 9 pounds, once you hit 285 it only comes in load range "D" anybody have an idea on what a 9 pound difference will do to gas mileage??

 

If you are worried about mpg's don't buy 285's

 

My km2s have done amazing in the snow, but I would go with the duratracs in your situation.

 

This isnt my daily so its not a huge deal breaker but just wondering how much difference it might be. I only have 1 shot at getting this right I really dont wanna regret going smaller... My lady says go with 285 and 3" instead of 5100's and 265. However its about 1k-1.5k more for the OME and the gas difference so.....ya I have changed my mind I think everytime I research.

I'm really leaing towards the duratacs now just gotta decide on the size 265 i feel will look like skateboard wheels under the OME setup.... I also plan on towing a camper sometime and the dakars are gonna be better for that I believe. Geez who would have ever known this would be so difficult for me

Only im considering 285 vs 305.....and 295s dont have the sidewall i want (65 - to keep the % down some). 17in vs 18in....bla bla bla bla.....change my fukn mind every week.

 

285 Duratracs FTW!! I debated the same choices in Tires. I am more than pleased with the Duratracs. Especially if your tires are going to touch snow.
