    Lol yeah I lay them flat as well. You're not gonna mess em up, they're meant to hold up the weight of your truck as it bounces down the road

    In this case I would have done that and thrown a strap over the top lol

    So in this case (I've noticed it on my flatbed as well) the location of the anchor points for the ratchet straps can affect the height of things you can strap down. Those leaf springs laid flat might have had some movement with the ratchet straps fully cranked down just because of where the ratchet hooks are on the side rails.

    I might also be crazy. I'll let @0xDEADBEEF explain his own reasoning.

    Reason why they ended up that way is they’re too short to tie down effectively on their sides, and this way the springs spring against the straps, so they don’t wiggle free
