Having an in-line switch before a t-stat isn't something you see often. For your use case though it really might not be a bad idea. It would also be super easy to do. I haven't seen any type of t-stat that uses a single gang. They are all independent mounts.

 

Yep. Hence my dilemma.

I have mounted T-stats in single boxes, so it is doable. Double or more boxes, the pooch be screwed unless someone makes a plate or someone (here) has a shit howdy Pablo answer.

 

@Pablo8 - I'm likely not following what you're intending but I'll throw this out there anyway.

If you add the thermostat to a 3 gang box, could you do a cover plate like this for the wires to go through?

The one issue I see is thermostats are mounted higher than light switches but that's easy enough to offset but adjusting the temperature since heat rises.

 

Almost exactly what I decided to do. But keep it two gang plate.

Added some flooring in the attic tonight. Worked out well.

Ill need to get some wire for when i add more lighting in my attic. Sounds like a nice deal

 

I have all the controls, I just need a T-stat switch. Besides the switch location is not wired for that.

 

Got a few things done today. Replaced a few Blum 110 degree soft closing cabinet hinges that were junk, re-applied some Henry's elastomeric roofing sealant on a couple of valleys on the roof that had peeled up, a new vacuum breaker/pressure regulator, and filled in some expansion joints with sika flex backer rod and self leveling sealant. I had a bunch of crushed aquarium coral media (used to have 100 gallon saltwater reef tank) so I sprinkled some over the top of the sealant. Also, got my Rinnai tankless water heater repair parts in the mail, but I'm going to let the plumber mess with that one...

Started my attic lighting upgrades today. Realized I need to get a roofer out to fix the shingles/flashing/decking around the chimney, as the fix and flip people did a really shoddy job. Shingles are new, but they put them over partially rotted decking with sub par flashing around the chimney. It will be leaking within a few years Id say.

Also found a neat thing hiding in the walls when I cut for a remodel box. A newspaper from July of 1988. Main article is about using those new fangled microwaves to cook underwear and kill yeast...

 

I need to do this. Do you just add batting under the ply? Or did you just cover up the blow-in?

 

Up in my office today reading Motor Trend I hear the doorbell downstairs and hear my phone going crazy from texts. I finish my meeting with John & head over to my bedroom window to have a look at the weather. I look across the condo driveway and see my neighbor/friends house spewing water from some electrical conduit screwed to the stucco of the building, also a waterfall coming from the window frame. Then my girlfriend yells from downstairs that the wife is on the line yelling at me to get the hell over there to see what's going on (she's unpacking at their new house while he remodels the condo, another neighbor in the complex tipped her off). The husband had been there earlier doing some work on their bathroom remodel but he wasn't answering her calls. I run over there & find the tub filler spewing water, hitting the backside of his new shower wall liner and going straight down the wall to his downstairs dining room. The dining room had filled with water and was running under the baseboards to the exterior of the building above the garage door where I saw it. My girlfriend killed the water main while I struggled to find the valve hardware to turn the flow off. By the time I got it under control my neighbor had got home & opened the garage spigot to kill the flow upstairs. We did some troubleshooting and realized that his water main doesn't fully close. He had closed it to go get lunch & thought it was fine. My girlfriend later said when she got to the main it was already closed, but she figured since it was still flowing maybe there was a bad spot in the gate valve threads that prevented it from fully closing so she opened it and then closed it again. Good on her for the triage, even if it wasn't the root cause.

All in all my neighbor is disappointed his quick "fluff n buff" bathroom makeover is going to take a week longer & require some extensive drywall repair & paint...but he's responding better than I would have!

I've had more than my fair share of plumbing issues. I can sympathize with the back-tracking on the remodel.

 

No worries, all those controls are on the unit itself. Basically most of those variables are just set-up for the room, IMHO. I'm not gonna be a flame jockey with propane. Anyway, I'm pretty pissed at the way Honeywell markets these low end simple T-stats, and the stock at Home Depot sucks. Honeywell nowhere on the box or instructions say the one I bought is for 24V systems only. Kind of important.

Anyway I ordered this and I can either put it above the existing switches or it is small enough I could put it in place of the manual switch.
