First - thanks, and same back to you!

Second - I hope the screenshots below will clarify exactly what these "door edge guards" are... these pictures are the description from Toyota's website and a close-up view of a similar product. My previous vehicle had 3M film on the edges of the doors, and that was almost completely invisible. These things, on the other hand, did not "blend seamlessly to complement exterior styling" as the description claims. From a distance they wouldn't really catch your eye, but up close I thought they were a bit of an eyesore. Instead of covering the edges of my doors to protect them when I door ding other cars, I'm just going to try really hard not to door ding anyone

My truck also has the OEM door sill protectors. I probably wouldn't have paid for them if I'd had the choice, but I do like them.

Ok, now I know what you mean. I would call them door protectors lol They would look good on my truck as it is red with black accent.

Who else has to carry a big stick with them when trying to get attention from their dealer about their months old order?
Mine does not reply for over a month now, I may have to go in. Been 6 months in this ordering process.

Are you saying you are waiting for your 2021 Taco if so I would be pissed especially when there are members here that have already received their 2022.

If anyone is in quick need of an OR AT without the bells and whistles, message me and I will give you the info on the dealer. Trying to help out the salesman and anyone interested in an OR of this type. Located in the Rocky Mountain region. Left out the details of the dealer so they won’t be bombarded with anyone but serious calls (don’t want to piss them off because my truck arrives in about 1-2 weeks and do not want to blow it)

Thanks for clarifying ! That's exactly what I had pictured for a door edge protector that you would want to remove. That would be too overwhelming on the door imo. The 3m is a much better option.

Picked it up yesterday. I will say the dealer stuck with our original deal even though I got a 2022. I suppose they are making enough off me as is lol. But they didn’t try to pull anything off like up-charges I’ve heard about on here. Overall good experience with Town and Country Toyota Charlotte. Got more for my 4 Runner than I paid for it after my use and miles. Crazy times.

    Hi everyone!
I’m brand new to the Tacoma work (coming from Volkswagen), and I was hoping to get some information beyond what I’ve been able to read in this thread.
I put a deposit down for an AG DCSB TRD OR last Thursday. My salesman has been super responsive and great to work with, but I’m kind of questioning what happens next. I didn’t get a “confirmation” or anything stating that they’ve put in for an allocation for me.
Also would it be better to find something that’s already available at a dealership or just wait patiently?

A dealer doesn’t “put in” an allocation for you, but rather the dealer waited for its allocation from Toyota and hopes one will match your needs/wants. Things like color and all the port options can be changed, but the drivetrain and the tech/premium packages cannot. If a close configuration is not currently on the dealer’s allocation list, you have a deposit on a hope and a prayer.

    @backcountrydraft welcome to TW!

In all likelihood you'll have to wait several allocation periods depending on the volume your dealer moves.

Side note: im 98% positive you put a deposit on a '22--pretty sure that they're done making '21s and if not they're definitely not taking orders for them.

Not sure how many pages of this thread you've read but a majority of folks waited several months between deposit & delivery.

i figured as much. It’s a real PITA right now. I don’t want/need anything crazy, but nobody in 500 miles of Atlanta has that car available right now.

Once you get an allocation then you are given a temporary VIN. The temp VIN has 2 letters in the last 6 numbers of the VIN (ex:********3AD567) Once the vehicle is built the temp VIN “disappears”.

EDIT: Sorry, my memory failed me. It’s just one letter in the last 6 for a temporary VIN (ex:*********3A3545) Once the vehicle is built then the temporary VIN “disappears”. A permanent VIN is then assigned and the letter in the last 6 disappears (ex:*********323545).

Placed the first order and deposit in early March of 21, now in Feb of 22, the story is they have dealer traded for a truck that is optioned up 7K over the original truck. No delivery date given, or guessed at, so I guess the waiting goes on….

If the dealer trade truck works out, it should be in the driveway at a week less than a full year, and a third higher cost than the original truck I ordered. Tah dah
