So I know this was a topic about a year ago. Wondering if there has been any progress on making it so when you remote start it doesn’t shut off.

Pretty much remote start even with push button should shut the vehicle off if it doesn’t detect the key fob when the break is pressed or when the key fob isn’t detected in range. Not when the door is opened. This would prevent any theft, or does it not matter where the fob is once’s the trucks started?

I’m surprised someone hasn’t come up with a tune/program that changes this.

    The short answer is no.

I've heard people talking about leaving a second fob in the truck or something stupid but no, Toyota designed the trucks this way as a safety feature.

This is the single most annoying thing about the truck I’ve found. My buddy goes out to his Doge hops in and drives off. Wonder if my friend with a Zeus can get into the programming and change it…

Yup, I find it to be the dumbest thing about my truck as well. My 2009 Impala was the same as your buddies Dodge. Hop in and just drive away.....and then occasionally the engine would cut off a couple blocks away because I forgot my keys. Haha

i would totally prefer this. My friend thinks she may be able to do it once she gets a bypass for her Zeus. Always hate asking her because everyone is always bugging her to do work on their vehicles.

I wish there was an update! It’s kinda annoying, but at the end of the day it starts right away after you push the button

Finished talking to her. She thinks she may be able to do something, said she’s do some research and get back to her. She was totally confused as to why Toyota would set it up that way, had to explain to her twice before she said da f$:k ok I think I can fix that.

I'd love a fix. This bothers me more than it should.

My wife’s Acura RDX does this. Even though it’s annoying. It’s a safety thing. You get used to it. If you didn’t have remote start you would still have to muster up the strength to push the start button!

I'll take this problem any day over a start-stop system. The start-stop drives me crazy on our Highlander.

So the only alternative is to have the remote starter act as the primary key with no off timer, but its sketchy because if it fails the engine will stall and steering will lock.

    Just gotta deal with it.

This is why it pisses me off. It’s claimed to be a safety thing but does absolutely nothing for safety or security that couldn’t be accomplished without killing the engine.

It beats someone stealing your car without the key fob I guess.

You can’t just get in remote started car without the key and drive away. You think you could climb in the window without opening the door and drive away?

That is true if the window is down. Breaking a window will probably kill it or sound an alarm.just saying.

There's no audio sensor on our trucks stock. Pretty sure Toyota has a kit to add one though.

Not sure about that though my truck is fairly new so you never know what is in there.
