A crazy DRL idea...

I am considering an upgrade to the TRD Pro headlights, since my TRD Off Road has burned up headlight housings, and the previous owners never had the recall done.

This got me wondering if I could... Let's say reconfigure the lighting on the front of my truck.

I would like to split the DRL off from the turn signals, and send it to the stock fog lights, and run a 9140 bulb (lower wattage), and get some aftermarket fog lights to wire up using the stock fog light switch. Thus, I'd have better light from better headlight housings, dimmer DRL fog lights, and the option to use a higher power, yellow/amber (2500k ish) fog light with proper cutoff for actual fog ops (It's been foggy here every. single. day. for the past 2 weeks).

Is this going to be a nightmare of a project, or should I actually give it a shot?

As an aside, how difficult would it be to wire a rear fog up to the stock switch? I'd get a fit for purpose (red) light, and not be a hackjob/moron and use a white light.

TRD Pro headlights are for 2012-15 year trucks. Unless you have done a front end conversion, TRD a pro headlights won’t fit.

Yes. You're correct. I meant the Sport/smoked headlights...

The DRL circuit can be "duplicated" by substituting the fog relay output by fused ignition power so you can use the OEM output to the new fog lamps.

I'd rather have the fogs be the only DRL. I think maybe I should build a spaghetti monster under my dash.

Then all that is required is a fused ignition source to the fog relay. No need for a switch.
    This what your vehicle has:

This is the "converted" Fogs to DRL:

This is the rear fog tied to the cab switch:

Get parts to assemble a Y harness and you get the DRL and the added fogs. Added fogs are controlled by OEM cab switch. DRL how ever you choose.

Rear fog add to Front Fog connector option:
