Radio lights really dim inappropriately....

I am having the issue that intermittently my radio display dims like it would at night, but during bright sunlight. This happened with headlights on auto, with headlights on, and with running lights on. Turning the headlights off completely resolved the issue. Any thoughts?

 

Welcome to TW! The use of the word "inappropriately" might be the wrong word...

 

Do you have anything on your dash near the windshield?

 

The lights automatically dim when either the headlights are turned on or the running lights. When the switch is in the off position is the only time the radio stays at full brightness.

I tried to look for a setting in the radio settings to turn off this feature off but came up with nothing.

I also do not have auto headlights, mine are switch only. So I know immediately anytime I turn the headlights on in any fashion it dims the screen.

 

Hmmm....I bet this happened when my wife put her hat in the corner on the passenger side of the dash. We'll have to experiment.

 

You have a light sensor on the dash by the tweeter grill, (I think passenger side, but could be wrong), make sure nothing is blocking that.

 

I bet you're right. I'll have to blame my wife and her hat on this one.

 

My Head Unit dims when I go under bridges (nothing on my dash blocking the sensor). I believe there is a setting in the Head Unit under Display that is called “Daylight”. Leaves the Display on bright all the time (which I did not like). After about a year I got accustom to the auto dimming and rarely notice it.
