12-15 mirrors on my 08

So I'm upgrading my rear view mirrors to one's from a 2013 with the built in led signals in them, I was wondering since my truck likely won't have the wiring for it built in, if I could just tap in to the turn signal fuse to power them, or would I have to tap directly into the turn signal wires themselves? I looked this up before posting but didn't find much info on it.

 

The fuse just provides juice. The wires have the juice when the signal/hazards choice is selected. If you have the DRL harness installed, there are empty slots in the connector that you can add the missing terminals to have each side work.

 

I don't believe I have the drl harness. How would I check? So it sounds like best bet is to tap into the existing turn signal wires?

 

If the turn signals do not illuminate when the vehicle is ON and the parking brake released, then you don't have the DRL harness or feature.
There's a connector (1B) on the cab fuse box that has the wires to the turn signals.

 

Looks like 1B is my connector I'm looking for? Ya I forsure don't have drls. So I should be able toc connect wires to the connector in the cab?

You'll also need to t-tap the wires from the mirror, since the connector on the door does not have the wires.

 

What do you mean by T tap? Do you have a picture of this itself? Thanks for all of your help!

Unless you get the missing terminal and crimp a wire long enough to reach 1B from both doors, there's no need for the t-tap.

 

Nope, I purchased the whole door harness and had to relocate the wires of the connectors to match my 2005 to the 2015 harness.

 

Hmmm okay, maybe somebody here did it the way I'll have to and has more info. Thank you! I have a good baseline on what I need to do. I'm getting parts off of a crashed truck so maybe I can steal some other parts to make this easier.

 

On the left is the info on the wires for the door mirror turn signal.
Center is the O2 connector of the door that goes to the door mirror.
ON your 2008, the #4 & 5 slots are empty at the door,

but on the new mirror they have the wires. These are the wires you'll need to tap into.

Do you know what the crimps are that I need so I can install the wires directly into the connector? Or just do what you said and by pass the connector, but t tap into the actual wires from the mirror harness themselves?

 

Find the retaining lock on the connector from the door harness:

Press the tabs the retain the connector and remove the connector.
On one side you'll see these:

They need to be pressed out (carefully) in order to remove the locking bar of the terminals:

Now the connector is ready to receive the missing terminals. They go inverted to the ones on the other side:

 

Sweet! Okay and I found more info too. It looks like I can tap into the headlight harness for power to the signals in the mirrors for the blinking function only (since i don't have drls) then run the power up to the mirrors, and ground it in the door somewhere.
