Given what you said about crash to desktop it is possible the GeForce drivers aren't fully stable with the programs you're running. The only thing Quadro offers that's miles beyond GeForce is driver stability. If the programs you run are qualified with the Quadro Creator's drivers then it's possible they aren't as stable with GeForce. That's why there's a dozen GeForce updates a year but only 2-3 Quadro upgrades. GeForce has to pass a far lower stability requirement, Quadro drivers must be certified stable with every program nVidia has on their list.

That all being said a RTX Quadro is bank, so I'd maybe contact support for your programs and get their thoughts.

I am kind of old school. My experience is solely with supporting engineers running AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Pipe-Flo, etc., and that experience is getting dated. I know nothing about Revit or Enscape.

That said, I can't think of any certified GeForce card for the software I'm familiar with, only FirePro, Quadro, and Radeon Pro cards. In the past we had close to zero luck with gaming/desktop type cards. Crashes and freezes were common. Heat, power, and driver support issues were common causes.

I think you hit a keynote here, but my experience in this area is getting close to a decade old. :(

In the past couple years, AutoDesk has gone more towards the gamer type setup, than the workstation type. Even though I don't play any video games, my system would be a fantastic gaming platform.
I can potentially see that the driver 'twitchiness' would be my problem in AutoCad. That software has been a bit slower to come around to a NON-workstation scenario. But I've been slowly weening myself off AutoCad, and moving more of my work to 3D (Revit). Revit is all CPU. And has very little demands on video performance. If you use the in-program rendering....then maybe it becomes essential. But with the Enscape Add-on, I NEVER use the Revit rendering. It's LIGHTYEARS too slow....compared to instantaneous rendering, with Enscape.
Enscape is ALL GPU....and specifically, gamer style GPU.
Like I say.....my 3070 works well. And let me also add this.. I have ALL my video settings set very high. I'm not interested in budget setups...and going middle of the road. I want my settings on max....and my render output to be top-end. Buying high end, high functioning components, equals better end product for me. And my business benefits.
I've just been slightly underwhelmed with the 3070 - as it was kinda my only choice (at the time). And wondered if anyone here had experience with Enscape, using a 3080...or above. And now I'm wondering if it's worth the expense....
(I 'lowkey' have already decided it is. But I'm still hoping to get feedback from someone that has seen it, first hand).

Yup. AutoCad, of a few years ago, loved the video options you mention here. But they're moving away from that.

I'm the same way. I don't do 3D though. For work it's mostly Adobe now but I used to do a lot of work in Pix4D and with VMs for 1000+ image stitching. Your setup is great and part of why I'm asking all this is because I'm surprised the 3070 can't handle it.

Memory Express in NE Calgary is the main store that routes shipments. You could always grab a 3080Ti, they're in stock often, and see if there's a difference. If not you can resell in your home town for MSRP no problem.

As for hiccups, try running a 12th Gen on Windows 11. I've had registry corruption, printer driver crashes, and once even Microsoft Paint took a dump when I was copying pictures off the internet for my kids to colour. I mean I like being bleeding edge because it's fun to tinker but this level of issues would scare off most users, Windows 11 and the 12th Gen feel like they're in Beta.

I saw today that my Corsair Dominator DDR5 ram is worth $1500 on eBay. Scalpers gonna scalp I suppose but, hot damn, you would think Intel would of made sure to match 12th Gen production to DDR5 production. I know you can use DDR4 and for now it's not a performance disadvantage but the DDR5 shortage is crazy to me.

I had read back a few pages, and saw you snagged a 3080Ti. For a 'not-too-nutz' price, either. My computer guy says he has a buyer for my 3070 already (not surprised). So jumping to a 3080Ti is definitely in the realm. However, if it's just a bit more....I may just go for a 3090.
My 3070 has been good. But I suppose I expected better. On paper, a 3070 is very much on par with a 2080Ti. And that was a staple for Revit/Enscape users (who were fortunate enough to have them). But with newer versions of Revit/Enscape...and the fact I'm taking on much larger projects now...I just feel I'm pushing it with a 3070. I don't like pushing. I want smooth..

The 12th Gen setups look amazing. But I've heard a LOT of horrors stories with Win 11. My wife has already caught me pricing out components for a 12th Gen build...lol. But I think I'll wait until around this time next year - hopefully when the Nvidia 4000 series hits. Maybe MS will have Win 11 a bit more dialed in, by then..

Speaking of crashing, wanted to see if you guys had any ideas on tech support. Over the course of the past 3 weeks after about 2 hours of gaming in Halo Infinite my PC will hard reboot like someone pressed the reset button on the tower. I'm running the latest chipset drivers and latest nvidia drivers.

I thought it was a Halo Infinite thing because the game is new and not the most stable, but then the same thing happened to me yesterday in DayZ. Couple hours in and the PC just hard reboots.
    • I ran AIDA64 for 10 minutes to make sure it wasn't CPU overheating... highest temp was around 72C.
    • Ran 3D Mark for 10 minutes to make sure it wasn't GPU overheating... highest temp around 68C.
    • Ran system stability test in AIDA64 for about 10 minutes, no issues.
    • Also re-ran Fire Strike, Cinebench R20, and AIDA RAM benchmarks. Everything benchmarked within a margin of error from when the PC was a fresh build on new OS.

It's not an overheating issue, I'm confident there. Could drivers still be causing a hard reboot? My next thought is possibly a power supply issue? I'm running an EVGA 750W Bronze Semi-Modular from 2013. It's got 8 years of life on it.

    Thoughts or suggestions welcome!

I'd take a hard look at the power supply. Grab a new one and return it if that does not solve the problem.

^^^ Bad RAM can also cause resets like that. Anything suspicious in the event log?

Oh there will be some mods all right
What you are describing is exactly what was happening to me when it turned out that my power supply was bad.

That's definitely my suspicion. Looks like I can snag another EVGA 750W for around $65 so it would be worth it to try.
Haven't checked the event log. Wouldn't know what to look for if I did.

Probably not worth the effort. Eight years is a pretty good run for a power supply.
