I purchased my 1st set of Maxtrax at CVT in Bend. No tax or shipping, so $300 OTD. My second set came from Truck Brigade for $300 OTD, back when they offered free shipping and no tax collected.

@Truck Brigade or @memario1214 any deals on Maxtrax?

Currently nothing here. Could probably do a little sum on some ARB TREDs, but I am waiting on our next Maxtrax shipment to show up... With currently a ~2mo ETA on them.

yes they do. The tred boards have a couple different sets of mounting holes and from what I found online the spacing is the same on the main ones in the middle

At that price point for not much more you can get a good winch, which IMO is better to have than traction boards out here in the PNW.

Good arguments for either. Lot harder to throw the winch in my wife's car when it snows and she needs the vehicle. And I've had the Maxtrax 3 years and Winch 2 years. Maxtrax I've used 30 times, prolly. On my rig others rigs, trailers, sxs's, etc. The winch I've used like twice, to pull out bushes in my yard! lol.

I'll reach for the trax before I reach for the rope in just about any situation other than the "you're fucked already" one

I'm lucky to have never needed it yet. There were a couple times before I had the winch I really really wished I had one, but made it anyhow. And since I've had the winch, nope, not once been in a situation like that, haha.

I'm with the others, I've used my Maxtrax WAY more times than my winch.

Also, I don't think you're getting a winch, a bumper to house it, and installing it, for anywhere near $600. The winch alone is most likely going to exceed that price, depending on size, brand, and cable (rope) type.

I already had the bumper. I got my warn evo 10s with synthetic line for not much more than 2 pairs of maxtracs. I haven't put it on yet but install will be free (everything i've done to my truck is DIY with a help from a few friends).

But yes, if you dont have a bumper or winch cradle then yeah, traction boards would be the cost effective way.

I've tried heavy duty traction boards in deep snow and they didn't do anything except get spit out. I've been unfucked many times by my buddy's winch. If you gave me the option to only have a winch or only have traction boards I would always opt for the winch.

It takes like 12 seconds to throw a traction board down and give it a chance. It takes 5 minute to setup a winch. Try the easy stuff first

Fair warning... install won't be free. Plan on wiring, hardware, brackets, hooks, fairleads, etc... it's the unexpected shit. I've installed about 4 different winches in 4 different vehicles (Tacoma's and a Hummer H3) and all of them were more expensive when everything was said and done than expected.

I've never had issues using the boards in snow. I've helped out quite a few people with them. Yes, they get spit out once in a while, but that's where having more than a single set comes in handy.

Only one option...I would go winch as well. But what if you get stuck in such a way that there is nothing to winch on in front of your truck or it's just physically impossible like the front bumper is resting on a tree or you're pointed down hill and you need to go backwards. Best to have multiple options.

I've found that maxtrax are epic in the snow. A little digging of snow around the tires might be needed but every time I have needed them, I got right out with no drama.

When I mean free, I mean I'm not paying someone for the labor.

I do plan on getting some cheap boards and see how they do, esp in the sand. Most of the time though a yank from a buddy is more than enough on getting unstuck. I generally always go with a friend if I know there's a chance of getting stuck wherever I go.
