2wd tacoma sas full width swap

Has anyone sas swaped a 2wd first gen tacoma with full width axles? Is it the same as swapping a 4wd truck

 

I assume by "2wd" you mean a 5-lug?

But what do you mean "full width"? Like 1 tons or just the IFS width axles (vs. the pre-86 toyota solid front axles which are narrower).

With a SAS, you're pretty much tearing out the entire suspension and drivetrain, yeah, it's pretty much the same. You could to it to a RAV4 or Highlander, too, lol. Starting with a 4x4, or at least a pre-runner you'll have an easier time fitting a transfercase, but if you're going aftermarket, that doesn't really matter.

My bad, I was picturing a 2wd with solid front axle but no diff.

 

Yes I want to use a 14bolt and dana 60 with the 5 lug frame and chevy running gear. I already have the axles moter and trans. I'm just curious if anyone has done this with a 2wd truck. Where I am they are alot easier to come by and if im not using the drivetrain anyway

Yeah, then I see no real difference.

The fenders are different, but sounds like you're going to be cutting those up too, anyway.

I would say you should beef up all that on a 4wd, too. Frame stiffeners and all that.

The frames and engine compartments are the same dimensions, so I doubt it, especially if you're fabricating your own motor mounts and crossmembers.

I can maybe see if you'd be able to re-use the trans/t-case crossmember from a 4x4, but I'm betting you'd end up hacking that up anyway. Probably easier to start without one and start from scratch.

 

I think unless you're making this thing really tall, you're going to want to rebuild the front frame anyway, there's no where for the axle to compress to on an IFS frame.

Huh... mine compresses just fine with a 22" frame height.

Why not just put a Tacoma cab and bed on a Chevy frame and Drive Train it would be much easier

Like my Camaro on a Blazer frame many years ago.

 

In that specific photo, the rear leafs are limiting more flex, which is why I have the 4WU kit to do a rear 3 link... just waiting on CO springs and one FOX coil over.
As for the DS droop, it's close to maxxed out as I'm on 12" FOX CO's.
The PS stuff can achieve close to 2 more inches.
I'm sure my parts are sitting on a cargo ship in Long Beach.

As far as a Tacoma goes it's the same effort to SAS 2wd or 4wd if you're throwing away the Yota drivetrain.
