Aluminum Camper Shell

I had them made here in Canada by a local RV window manufacturer. They were about $150 cnd each. Should be lots of options local to you as well.

Learned me a good lesson today about cap buying. Snagged an aluminum job this morning for a few hundred quid. Guy what sold it to me said it came off a 2013 Tacoma LB. He seemed pretty cool so I didn't dig deeper. The thing looked real clean and the price was cheap so I bought it and loaded it on my trailer. When I got the thing back to my compound I took some rags and cleanser to it. It was then I noticed on the inside an ARE serial number tag which said, "Chevy S10 RC SB DCU". Reading that sent a case of the gee-willikers down my spine. I made the stupid assumption that "It came off a 2013 Tacoma Long Box" meant that thing was somewhat designed for a 2nd Gen Taco LB. Yeh, I know , not one of my finer moments. It's funny how often life can bitch slap you and subject you to Larry, Moe & Curley moments when you realize how buffoon-like you can be. I have spent a good bit of time laughing at the folly of it this afternoon. Now will come the job of figuring whether it will fit on my truck without improper mating, gaps, hodge-podge appearance and the like. It seems like it could possibly will fit. The exact measurements are 61" wide by 76" long. Its a tough pill to swallow thinking that my Tacoma might be running an S10 cap. I do got my pride.

If any of you righteous cats have a true 2nd Gen LB aluminum cap I'd love to know what the bottom length and width measurements are to see whether this thing is at least in the right galaxy. Not a life changing gaff or anything as I didn't spend too much for it and can likely resell it for what I paid. If I can make the sucker work, I plan on giving it the once over... repainting it and adding some features what I like such as a couple slider windows, insulation, interior sheathing, mood lighting and a skylight. This is a great thread and I place aluminum cap aficionados at the top of life's totem pole. Just want to join the ranks.

I thought I had a picture but apparently I failed at posting.
Mines a 29"are . I have it set up to sleep two. It sets up and takes down pretty easily. The tent on the end keeps the misses happy and keeps my feet dry if it happens to rain.

 

@chrslefty Nice, man! Looks great. I might have missed it in a past post...Did you insulate it? If so, what did you use?

Yes, to help hold the center platform.

The platform shifts a bit with a lot of bumpy miles and the middle pieces will fall in. I added a pice buy the front on the inside that helped to keep them in place too.

 

Yes, I added all my windows and a marine hatch.

Well this thread is awesome. Seeing some really great rigs. Been giving a lot of thought to the topper I want, and I am almost certain I want to go with a DCU wedge. Just got a requested a quote on a 26-32" wedge. Also considering the 23-29". Which one should I get yall?

 

I have the 26”, NO wedge. I think i’d go 23-29”. I’m 6’4 and the 26” gives me plenty of headroom when sitting up with a sleeping platform. The 23-29” will be more or less cab high at bulkhead and give you better mpg. Depends on what you want to use it for, but i feel like the 32” would be too big.
