2017 clear coat failure

For all the potato heads saying you were in the sun, great, who cares, any of you notice the old shiny red ranger across the road, the roof on it looks fine. The OP's hood is fine. Sun or not, this is a failure of Toyota quality yet again.

 

Unless the car is parked next to Mercury, I don’t think it caused this much damage within 4 years. Did you by any chance drove to space and stopped by the Sun within the last 4 years? I doubt you did but I wonder. My taco is always parked on the sun and nothing happened. My guess is a bad paint job.

More on the issue here. After I read this like a year ago I had the roof of mine wrapped. Sorry to hear about your bad experience.

Exactly. That roof is a Toyota fail, it's asinine to blame OP here. It's almost as if Toyota itself didn't bother to get up high enough to give the roof a decent spray. ITS A 4 Y/O PAINT JOB

 

its painted by a machine exactly like yours and mine. its not a lack of effort that caused this

 

paint job is thinner than a strippers thong. clear coat?? I swear...the paint they use these days is weak water based junk

 

Yes. Because no Toyota parts/modules, built/welded/painted by robots never fail early

 

It’s probably the room temperature was too high. People may be farting around and warming up the room temperature.

 

Just bite the bullet and get the top repainted and at least more clear on hood. sides will prob. be ok.

I see LOTS of Toyos here in TX with bad roofs. Sun or chems or whatever, it goes first.

Yes parking at dealer and showing to potential customers may work best, at least it used to. They may know no one is paying attention to anything anymore.

 

Too many farts, mis mixed paints, robot paint urethras holes clogged that day. Could be anything to cause early clear and paint fail.

 

maybe robots DO fart? Maybe not farting is how we'll spot them in the future...thanks for the heads up.

 

I wonder if that's because of the lack of insulation under the hood allowing the hood to cool down a little vs the roof. I would be curious if there was a temperature difference between the two.

 

On the bright side, you probably don't worry about your frame rusting out from under your truck like some of us.

 

I agree. If they can't get a paint that works in the heat, don't sell it.

 

Agree 100%. My black sand pearl lasted 11 years parked outside before I had to paint the roof. It didn’t even look that bad before I painted it in August. OP should be pissed but Toyota won’t help. Bite the bullet and get it fixed.

 

the amount of environmental crap they had to deal with when the ranger was being produced 12 yeas ago is nothing compared to what it is today. but i also had an 88 S10 blazer (similar color to the OP's vehicle that bubbled) Some paint colors have lower albedo's and are susceptible to this. All of those factors play a part in a paints longevity.

 

So does Toyota think we all park in a covered garage or under a tree? LOL! Mine sits in full sun everyday unless it is cloudy out, 3 plus years. My paint still looks new.

 

silver is one of the better paint colors to weather the harsh sun. White being the best

 

I also want to reiterate that it looked fine in May. 3 months went by and it looked awful. The speed that it failed is more alarming than the failure it’s self.
