I assume you’re changing out a ceiling fixture?
The red typically is an extra wire running from the switch location. That wire would normally be meant to turn on the fan if you have a fan light combo. Black would be for the lights. If the wire is extra in the box and wasn’t tired to anything before, leave it as is(with wire nut on it) and push it back into the box.

Yeah, I didn’t realize at first there is a dimmer switch.

 

That's walnut. The logs in the round are mesquite.

 

The dimmer switch shouldn’t have anything to do with the red wire. It’s a bit hard to say what exactly is happening. If you’re replacing a light with a light and the red wire was hooked up to the black wire coming from the light then hook up your new one the same as old.

I worked on the outdoor cat shelter a bit today, I covered it in leftover roofing materials from my garage roof job. This should make it very waterproof and cozy.
I wrapped the corners in ice and water shield.

Then covered the box in shingles.

Then used a holesaw to make the opening.
Most information I found online said to use a 6" hole for the entrance hole.

Next is the roof.........

 

I finished up the construction of the roof/lid.
Cut the pieces for the ends.

Stood it on end.......

And screwed the ends on.

Snoopy would be proud.

I installed some hinges so I can clean it out as needed and put fresh straw bedding in from time to time.

I finished the outdoor kittie shelter today
I carried the roof up from the shop.
Set it in place to check the overhang.

attached the hinges.
Used the last piece of ice and water shield for the roof peak and added a starter strip.

I shingled the sides.......

And shingled and capped the roof.

This should give the ferals a place to stay warm and dry this winter.

This is where it will stay, protected from the wind by the garage and the fence.

I need to get some straw for bedding yet. This whole shelter was constructed at zero cost. All wood was salvaged and the shingles where left over from doing the roof on my garage.

 

Awesome thing to do to help the strays. Out my way 2 cats would be in there the first night, a possum would sneak in and hide in the corner the second night and then by night 3 two racoons would break in and force everyone else out probably at gun point.... Trash pandas are cute, wily and have gangster level street cred up here.

 

My 1996 kitchen was in dire need of a face lift. The arched oak panel doors and green counter top just had to go. All the boxes where in good shape so it was just doors and drawer fronts needed changing. The only changes I made to the boxes was to shorten the height of over the fridge and the corner one by the dishwasher. The corner one was a drawer above with shelves below which ran all the way to wall. Things went in there never to be seen again. The replacement is 3 drawers which gives me a lot more usable storage. Frames are Eastern Maple, ply panels and sprayed with Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel.

 

Very nice face lift. I need to build new cabinets for my kitchen so bad! It's on the wish/to do list.

No, these are 1950s cabinets and everything has to go. Been painted so many times and the construction wasn't the greatest back in the day. I'm slowly outfitting my shop to do the production cabinet build. I'll have 3 router lifts in my table saw outfeed tables to do raised panel doors.

 

recently completed dining table I shipped to a client in NYC. There was a ton more time into the welding and metal work than the wood portion of this table, but the wood was a pleasure to work with.

42'' average width, by 8 feet long. started as a 12 foot slab. species is Sapele, an African hardwood.

Sapele has a beautiful natural color, but we stained this one down to match the finish of the dining chairs the designer spec'd. final result was a dark, warm, chocolaty color.

work on the slab included cutting it down to length, putting a 1/4'' round-over on the ends, scraping the bark, recessing a number of steel channels into the underside to prevent warping and movement, bringing the top, bottom, ends, and live edge down to a 240 grit finish, staining, and then finishing with 6 coats of Loba.

the base is 1''x1''x1/4'' walled steel tubing. 78 pieces of steel, and over 380 welds. gold powdercoat was the only thing not done in-house.

base weighed roughly 94 lbs. top weighed roughly 350 lbs.
