I believe the TRD OR and Sport are pre-wired for a brake controller. I know for sure my OR was. All you need is the adapter wire for the Tacoma model and then add a controller of your choice.

 

installed mine a couple days ago and works perfectly. Now I just need the front dual colors! Hopefully they’re back in stock soon

 

Just in time for some blazing hot weather, I see

 

Tacoma’s are actually prewired for a break controller, the connector is located behind driver left foot kick panel. I just installed a Redarc Tow Pro Elite unit completely plug and play with the Tacoma harness. Module installs behind the dash so only thing visible in the cab is a small control knob.

 

Which harness did you get? I see two options for the Tacoma...

Edit: The first one was recommended by their website. (tph-015).

Yep that’s the one I used, TPH-015. Also ordered the small switch blank,

$17 TPSI-002 Switch Insert Panel for Toyota and Mitsubishi vehicles

TPSI-002, and an extension harness to reach the overhead, RHWK-004. Extension isn’t needed if you put the knob left of steering or in center under A/C controls

Edit: Base models without tow package may not be prewired but like @oostroma mentioned above OR and Sport models (of which many have the tow package) should be prewired

 

I like it!, I was set on the UpTop but now it will be a toss between RCI and UpTop. I love the wind/noise deflector how uniform and nice it fits. All aluminum and stainless hardware?

 

What's the distance from ground to the deployed step and then again to the bed (open gate)?

I am trying to get my cigarette plug to stay on when the truck isn't running I did it on my 2012 I am a firefighter and it would be nice to be able to keep my red lights on when I get out of the truck on the side of the road. Anyone know a thread that might help me?

 

Finally received the only Black Friday purchase I made this year. TRD skid plate. I did not realize that it doesn't just bolt on if you have a diff drop. I'll have to machine some spacers to make things work right today.

 

Turn the key to accessory i believe depending on how long you have it on. dont think youll run out of power unless your battery is weak

 

I think all Tacomas with the V6 engine also get the the tow package as standard equipment after a specific year. I know my 2020 SR5 V6 4x4 it was included standard. Not sure about 4 bangers though.
