I think I went with gray rtv.

I tried re-using the gasket first since it didn't tear, that ended well

That's what I used. Throw in a short throw shifter for more fun.

The dual battery version looks to be around $200.

I usually keep a tube of Ultra black on hand since it's rated for oil and temps up to 500 deg or so. I use it on everything unless it's a reaaaaaly special case... which doesn't apply to most toyotas

Don't tempt him with a good time... short throw shift with his glaspack exhaust? He'll be faster than Tyler with his turbo:laughing:

4th gen 4Runner A750F trans pan uses a cork/rubber gasket from the factory.

this feels like the kind of shit talk my buddies would throw at me in high school

I remember my buddy putting a glasspack on his ram and insisting that it made his truck faster

interesting. I haven't touched a Toyota automatic in 10 years

it's funny how much they vary by manufacturer/model. Ford has been using a resusable gasket for 10+ years on the full size trucks at this point

Yeah, I recently replaced the strainer in my 4Runner and it had the gasket there, never opened since new. Replaced with a new gasket. Neither the old or new have leaked.

    4 run, 2 don't
Question on that one; was the pan where it mates to the transmission smooth or did it have a ridge/indent?

I used FIPG on my 1st Gen as that's what it had from the factory though it doesn't surprise me that yours used an actual gasket.

I can relate to the type of trail and mud hole. But there's a point where you realize you need to wade out into the mud to unspool the winch before you start to do serious damage.
