I mean... that sounds ideal if he wants to go home and work on his own projects and start any side gig work

idk man, removing a 24mm fill plug on the trans is way easier to me than taking the console off and dealing with the gasket but to each their own. I've only taken it apart once to do the shifter bushing but it took considerably more time than just loosening a fill plug on the transmission.

also, it's a universal rule when dealing with gear oil that you're going to spill some and it will smell, you just have to accept it no matter what you do. I don't think new gear oil smells bad at all, but old stuff reeks.

That's actually a good point especially since he has a 2wd 5lug, he won't have that damn DS in the way of the fill plug.

He's already taking the console apart for the shifter bushing so might as well fill up then from up top.

he did say he wanted to do the shifter bushing too, so it probably would be better to just do it all from the top since he'll be in there anyway. I think the shop that did my clutch years back refilled from the top and they must have overfilled it, because whenever I'd do a long drive the whole cab would start to absolutely reek of gear oil. Only on long drives when it heated up though, when I drained and refilled it myself it stopped. Was weird.
