You quite literally said exactly that in your post he quoted.

Perhaps you should read my post again. There is nothing about overthrowing of democracy in there.

"If you could identify one dictator, just one, who overthrew a democracy in a first world country due to modern electronics that would be great."

^This is a straw man question/argument that has absolutely nothing to do with what was being said.

I'm disturbed by the infrastructure bill provision mentioned earlier in this thread, and am hoping the ACLU and other organizations do something about it. Apart from the CCPA, my understanding is that there are no laws in the US regarding data privacy, and the CCPA itself is rather limited -- so it is all up to the brand image and the company leaders to set such goals. I would not want my detailed whereabouts and acceleration and braking patterns to be gratuitously supplied to Toyota or other third parties, even if it means that I don't get an insurance discount, unless it is needed as evidence in court. We have seen this sort of moving goalposts when it comes to user privacy in many cases.

For the aforementioned reasons, I also much prefer physical disconnections to trusting a company's policies, which are subject to flux as CEOs and VPs change. I'd much rather pull my DCM fuse. Has anyone figured out the Mic solution? Of course, one easy solution is to just get a bluetooth mic and stick it up there.

Eh, my solution is to not take phone calls while I'm driving. I'm busy, they can wait.

I was questioned by my ex-girlfriend, back when cell phones were new (analog to PCS days), why I wouldn't take her calls all the time. (I think I still had a pager at the time...)
I replied, "My cell phone is for my convenience, not yours."

    Hence the term, "Ex-girlfriend"

They are paying you. How do you think the app is free? Google maps is amazing yet it's free... there's no free lunch here.

Sure there is. They are feeding on our info, for free. Tell you what: keep your Google Maps, I'll keep my personal information. You probably don't remember a time when we got by just fine without all this technology. Before beepers. When a loss of privacy was your neighbors seeing your skidmarks out on the clothesline. I remember. And we liked it that way. We didn't have Facebook, we had phone book. But we didn't spend all fuckin' afternoon in it! You lemmings go pay my social security. There. See how you like not having a say-so about that son.

    Game. Set. MATCH.

I'm not sure if you are joking or not (it's funny either way) - but you do realize you have over 1000 posts on this public social media platform, right?

    A lot to unbox here...

I'm 40 so remember a time before all of this too. This is apparently hard for you to understand but Google Maps costs Google money to run and maintain. They do that in part by adds and analytics of the data they get from it. If they didn't you'd be paying a fee to use the app. So they are "paying" you for your data.

Also, you don't like those app don't use them. Nobody forces you to but the simple facts are they're free because of the data the company gets from them. If you're OK with that use the app. If you're not don't use. Not that hard.

Lastly the world moves on. You don't have to like it but it does.

The problem with social media is that people who have been owned won't accept they've had their assess handed to them. Just incessant insufferables. That'd be you husk. Defending big tech. Just fuckin' Bite me. And social media is not good for society. Prove me wrong.

But seriously, consumers' choices in buying a quality product that only does the job you want it to, and is not internet connected, is dwindling rapidly.

I'm one of the guys that unplugged the the module that supplies Toyota with that data. I am in no way defending social media or big tech, and I'm not sure what gave you that impression. Social media is a detriment to society and one of the major reasons fake news on both sides has proliferated across the planet like the Bubonic Plague. You are cordially invited to bite me as well.

And pay phones... and you had to be where you said you'd be at a certain time...
Hell, I remember getting phone calls at bars when the ball and chain was calling around looking for me. Good bartenders knew to ask, "Are you here?" and were tipped accordingly.
