Hey guys what’s up! It’s kevin here own a 2013 taco. I’m getting ready to buy some new headlights and I’m looking at the alpharex LUXX series and alpha Rex nova series. I know the nova series you can turn the DRL Amber with a wire but curious if I can do the same with the LUXX series.

In before CNB80 comes in here and tells you just how poorly those headlights perform compared to OEM headlights.

    I am honestly curious.

How do projectors perform on the Tacoma? From what I understand, the Tacoma can afford to use giant headlight housings/reflectors because there is a lot of real estate space on the front of a truck that doesn't care about aerodynamics, and is still somewhat old in design/styling (2nd gen)

The idea is that it throws a lot of light out. And that on a car with less space to choose from on the front end, they have to use a projector. Or nowadays, LED, since technology has improved. Even laser.

Projectors (or similar) make a crisp cutoff. Then again, my OE-style lights with upgraded bulbs kind of do also.
Is that a bad thing? Can a projector cutoff end up flying up and down every time you go over a bump, on a soft suspension truck that's changing angles?
vs. a street car on a normal road stays pretty flat...
They even have level sensors mounted to the suspension to know if it's tilting up at an angle fully loaded with people, or used to have a manual adjustment knob for that

Maybe the cutoff is not a bad thing, because it hasn't stopped many new 4x4's from going that route...
-5th gen T4R and TRD PRO
    -3rd gen Taco
    -Silverado
    -Dodge Ram
    etc.

Projectors(speaking for proper HID retrofits) on a Tacoma perform as it should. As with any projector headlights(again, properly done), the cutoff is fixed and aimed where ever you aligned it to aim…no matter uphill, downhill, 3° slant. At the right angle and timing over a hill, even low cars with projectors can blind me.

Haven’t been keeping up with the latest technology regarding level sensors, but I remember seeing a luxury brand that enabled its lights to dim accordingly to oncoming cars or pedestrians

Look at the ultimate headlight thread sticky. Then decide for yourself if they are worth it.

Our resident lighting expert @crashnburn80 has tested the Alpharex products (and many others) before and they're good looking, sub-standard lighting. If all you're worried about is looks, go for it though. I'll let crash fill you in on the gory details.

AlphaRex doesn't even exist as a product. They are just a reseller of way up-marketed cheap China garbage lights, where they buy crap lights from China, slap the "alpharex" branding on them and sell them for a huge markup to people thinking they are something better than they are. Definitely a product to avoid. They supply from so many sub-par china vendors it is hard to keep track, none are a legitimate headlight product.

Their high end full LED units are just relabeled Zjlingyi lights out of China. (wonder why they didn't keep that name).

I have a set of ebay headlights with projectors and an HID kit from TRS. Are the projectors better than oem projectors? No. However, I have way better light output from the projectors + HID than stock reflectors and bulbs. Get a high quality HID kit from TRS and enjoy. I've had cheap ebay HID in other cars and they're not worth it. Try to stick to 4300k color. Don't go over 5000k. Light output diminishes the higher you go.
