Try contacting those tuners. They often travel tune to cover those areas.

First and foremost, thank you Dave @TWTaco for making the foggy drive up to Fresno. Wouldn't have been mad if you'd decided to turn around in Bako, it can get a little unnerving. Secondly, your truck is bad a**. It is everything I had hoped mine would eventually look like when I purchased it...instead I am filling mine with child seats lol.

As for the tune, getting this done is absolutely essential. Kudos to everyone that participated in its development.

Since the day I bought my truck I have always grumbled silently and vulgarly about the shifting, the lag in acceleration, and the fact that it felt like I was dragging parachutes behind my truck. Smashing the gas pedal gave unpredictable results and even once everything kicked into gear it still felt like it was forcibly being held back. Having driven about 200 miles since getting the KD Max Pro Sport Tune, I can confidently say all of this is gone. Pressing the gas pedal finally results in immediate and predictable acceleration. Coming off the line takes just a little bit of getting used to since it now has more oomph, but it only took a handful of stop and goes to recalibrate my foot. As for highway driving, which I do a lot of for work, the gear hunting is thus far non existent. When I hit the on ramp and punch it to 80mph I haven't felt a single gear change. Same goes for when I am at speed and have to accelerate or slow down for lane changes or changes in traffic flow. My foot/pedal is finally in full control of the truck and I honestly feel safer on the road because of it. Oh and almost forgot, my MPG jumped up to 19.6 (17ish prior) when driving near 80mph.

I really can't understand why Toyota doesn't put them out this way. A damn shame.

P.S My wife has hated my truck since the day she found it sitting in our garage and even she, after a ~100 mile drive on the day of the tune, gave the ol Taco a compliment on how much better it drives.

Installed the KDMAX Pro Tune w/o recalibrating my ECU. Initial impressions: Best Tune Yet! Even smoother shifting then previous KDMAX tunes. Holds gears better and gained on ave 2 mpg. Running the Sport Tune. Like not having to switch between tunes using prem vs reg Oct. Fuel. Truck feels lighter. Runs stronger and is really FUN to drive. Thanx guys for making a great Tune even better! J.

I’m writing this as a positive experience with my pro-tune upgrade. Garrick Vanderwal from the St. Louis area hooked me up again with the latest version. First off he’s a really good stand up guy! I don’t know much about the technical lingo only by my seat of the pants dyno. This truck is unbelievable! It has endless power, tons of tourque and gets good mileage to boot. It has balls when you stomp on the gas to get up to highway speed or just to pass. I’m super happy with it !

So this optimized tuning for the new 3.5L engine from Toyota begs the question, "why is the performance so retarded from the factory"?

@PapaRee This intrigues me as well. Doing this tweak, how much does it change the shift points? Stays in each gear like 5mph longer etc? Running 33" MT/s, I'm wondering the slightly higher RPMs would be better for me. Not to say that I don't already thoroughly enjoy the standard pro tune..

I have been asking that for a long, long time!
Even my friend at the Toyota Dealership asked me that question. My answer is always "that is a great question!"

As you know, everyone has their own preferences.
Some people like it to get to the highest gear quick and stay at low rpms.
Some people like it to hold gears longer and stay at higher rpms.
I tried to find the spot where everyone would be happy.

    Pm inbound.

Is it possible to only go to 5th gear instead of 4th gear when shifting into "s" mode?

If you put it in SMode then push the shift knob up to read 5 on the center console, it is S-5. Then it will not shift up past 5th.
It is like this from the factory, and I cannot change it.

I'm thinking he's asking that when he puts it in S mode, it default starts in S5 rather than S4.

    You are correct.
I had a 2005 Kia Sorento that dropped 1x gear when switching to "S" mode and my current 2017 Forte5 SX does not change gears at all when switching to "S" mode.

    Gotcha!
Mat (vftuner) said in the past that he could try to figure that out, but for now there is no setting in vftuner to change the SMode gear. It always goes to 4th and you have to change it manually.
