Curious about battery life.....in the key fob.............gotcha. :p

Seriously, our stable has 4 key fobs spread over 3 rides. The newest key fob, '19 Honda CR-V, the fob battery needs replacing at 3 years. Our '02 Chevy TrailBlazer.....we can't recall when the fob battery was replaced, we know it has been. My truck, don't have a clue to the age of the fob battery.

Anyhow, all the fobs use the same battery, CR2032, and they are not terribly expensive. Roughly $3/each.

Does anyone have an idea how long these batteries typically live??

Have a 2004 Accord, had to replace the fob battery a couple years ago so lasted about 15 years.

AGM fanboys gonna drop in with a trick title like that, they’re gonna really be disappointed lol.

2007 and still on the original battery.
Some how, miraculously, the fob has survived been washed multiple times.

Which reminds me. I need to order a backup.

If I've replaced the battery on my 2007 I can't remember when I did. I also have a 2014 F150 that I bought used in 2016. They were weak when I bought it and I replaced them shortly after. I replaced them again this summer.

Bought my 2012 in 2014. I’m assuming it is the original.

My 2015 truck fob is fine

My wife's 2008 civic batteries go dead all the time. I think I've replaced them 3 or 4 times

Not sure if you’re joking, I was :D. The little fob batteries are lithium, have a self drain rate of only less than 2% a year, far superior in every way in this application to a lead acid AGM battery which if used in these cells would last maybe a month or two in a fob lol.

Will last as little a one year or 10 yrs + depending on service. Sometimes the buttons get inadvertently pushed while being carried around in a purse or in pocket and this affects life expectancy.

My 12volt solutions (remote start) fob needs about 1x per year. Not a big expense as you indicated. Kinda like the batteries in the home thermostat. Better to be fresh so I do 1x per year on that as well.

Ironically, our furnace quit working last night. Turned out to be the AAA batteries in the thermostat. The funny thing about this "problem" was when I returned from walking the dog. Wife was a bit uneasy because the furnace was out. She had replaced the batteries in the thermostat, but no response. I looked at the thermostat, noticed the 2 AAA batteries were installed -++-. I removed the batteries installed -+-+. Voila! Furnace is working. No, I didn't tell her what I did to fix the furnace. The telling would have lost Hubby Points.

I should get on a preventative schedule. Change the batteries for the house on the Spring Forward time change. The key fobs, probably every Even year. Apparently, the Honda CR-V is fob battery hungry compare to the Toyota or Chevy.

was traveling on business when the wife called to say that the A/C was out. And nervous about having to replace it. I asked one simple question over the phone: "what does the thermostat say?". She says "nothing - it's blank". Bingo. Problem diagnosed and easily solved once I told her where I hid the batteries. Yes, I hide them cuz if I don't, they are never available when i need them.

in my 2010 my main key fob still working fine. I have a spare key fob, never had to use it. Don't think they drain very fast. My accord I replaced once due to a misdiagnosis of fail to unlock condition on my part.

Also on original battery in both FOBs on a 07. Probably because I usually use the key to lock the truck - old habit, and press the lock button on the door from the inside as I exit the truck. And I rotate the FOBs. Now, the Mrs goes through a battery every 2-3 years on the Lexus ES350.
