I may be wrong but this is used for towing, and 4th gear is the highest non/OD.gear. I would imagine they do that to protect the transmission against towing heavy loads in OD.

This is true, however the owner's manual says "S5 or lower" for towing. Depending on the wind/terrain, I'll let it go to S5 when towing my RV, but it usually holds S4 on its own anyways.

Just picked up a 22 DCLB AT and I'm interested in either the KDMax Pro or CVC Tune. I don't plan on towing or off-roading - just a daily driver/surf vehicle. A few questions:
    1. Has anyone with a 2022 done a tune and noticed an improvement? Just curious if maybe Toyota fixed some of the tuning issues already. I've seen the tune is compatible with 2022's, but I'm looking for some feedback on performance improvements.
    2. Does it make sense to wait a little before performing a tune (i.e. engine break-in)?
    3. Does anyone have experience with this tune (or CVC) in the snow? Power sounds great but in the snow sometimes you want to torque it down a bit.
    4. Building on the above - is it possible to program the "normal tune" for normal driving and then either sport or wife mode programmed into the ECT mode? I read through a lot of the previous posts and saw mixed messages.
    5. Has anyone gone from CVC to KDMax Pro or visa versa? Right now I'm leaning towards CVC because it seems to be focused a bit more on drivability than power improvements.
    Thanks all!

Can't comment on a few of those points but... the only reason I would wait before tuning...is if you want to really feel and understand how the truck performs before you tune. Then once you tune, you'll really appreciate the tune and all it does compared to stock. KDMax Pro's drivability is perfect. It has the best drivability out of all the tunes I've run, stock, and user-created. If you're worried about extra torque/power, run the lower tip in tunes and you'll be fine. The power is delivered very linearly in the Pro tune.

We have worked hard to make the KDMax-Pro the best tune for Tacomas.
Drivability with increased power when you want it.
    -smooth shifting
    -linear, aggressive throttle response
    -octane learning--use regular or premium
    -power/torque when you need it
    -no loss in MPG's---most gain
    -ECT is a sport/tow mode--holds gears a little longer

Most of the tunes that are out there will IMPROVE drivability over stock.
The KDMax-Pro does it the best!!

I would suggest getting off that junk stock tune ASAP. Every day you wait is a day wasted.

I got on KDMAX 6.0 at 1,800 miles... but 18 miles would've been better.

KDMAX PRO is an outstanding tune.

    Hello,

Ive had the KD tune in my 21 Tacoma OR for a few months now. My son drives the truck more than me. But Ive been driving it recently and I just wanted to ask if extreme hyper throttle on "tip in" is normal? Its so bad I actually am thinking about removing the tune. For example, at a red light. If I move the pedal 1/4th of an inch, it LURCHES forward like I just asked for 80% throttle. I know the throttle comes muted from the factory. But man, whatever the throttle mapping is now is just WAY too much. We enjoy how it drives ones its moving. But taking off from a stop or taking off from a rolling stop; the truck wants to chirp the tires and bucks the truck. It makes for a rocky take off. Can this be toned down? Because this is not very safe or fun to drive. My throttle mapping feels like 1% throttle input equals 80% to the engine.

Ive had a sprint booster on my raptor. And even that on its highest throttle sensitivity is no where near where my KD tune throttle mapping is.

Anyone elese experience this? Is removing the tune the only option? Id be more than happy with just the transmission tune if thats an option too.

Thoughts, suggestions, solutions welcome. Please help!

    Thanks!

Yes, we have different throttle choices for that reason.
You can choose a lower throttle and get it flashed for no charge.
Just reach out to the tuner who did your tune and he will take care of you.

By the way, we just upgraded the tune to the KDmax-Pro (on November 14th). I addressed this in the KDMax-Pro. We still have three throttle choices, but the initial tip in is lower and fixes this problem--even on the Sport throttle.
If you want the new tune, just let your KD Pro tuner know and he will let you know the upgrade price.

I went from the SLT to the KDMAX PRO ( Sport level ). OMG !! Better gas mileage, more power and the shifting is awesome. Mike Peratoner from Reno is the BEST ! He’ll even meet you in the Sacramento area to make it more convenient for his customers!

Hey all, first post. I went through a couple of pages but may have missed it.

Is the KD Pro verified working on MY22 Tacoma and I didn’t quite understand if Dynamic Cruise does work if tuned.

    Yes-works on 2022 Tacomas.
Regular cruise has the tune changes, Adaptive cruise is not changed (not able to change it in Vftuner)

Cool so still functional but not “enhanced”. Sweet.

I’lol probably be ordering the kit from VF soon then ordering a tune pack. Trying to go the first 1,000 with a conservative break in.

lastly, how does the tune affect the use of ECT PWR?

ECT will hold the gears longer- good for towing and performance.
