Here`s a good article explaining it. Fukishima and Chernobyl are really the results of us stupid humans tinkering with dangerous technology... the same can be said about cars themselves. Accidents happen, and when they do, it gives us a pretty clear idea of what NOT to do next time.

Just do your own research. I'm no scientist nor a nuclear chemist, nor claim to be, but on this topic, I`d go with those who are.

Which is why we are in pursuit of nuclear fusion. Humans have managed to engineer such masterpieces as the stock first gen Toyota Tacoma so I have faith that we have it in us as a species to take a step further and redefine the laws of physics as we know them.

You are a little off there. Real world weight is 7148 pounds for the 135kWh version, 180 will up that even more. Also the range is EPA rated already at 314 and plenty of independent reviews have confirmed that. No reason to doubt the 400 mile range on the 180kWh at this point. Based on vast majority of the reviews that have come out in the past months this truck is absolutely living up to the hype and many have stated it is one of the most amazing vehicles that they have reviewed.

I have been saying this for the rivian EV truck . I’m all for EV and their advantages (I have a ev ) but hey laws of physics still apply to tires , wheels, suspensions and chassis. Again the rivian is like off roading a f350. Ur not gonna have a good time at medium speeds with tires and bashing about. If you want to actually not F shit up I’d legit run bead locks E load tires (even non radial tires ! Like a Baja T/A) and also add 3.0” rr shocks if possible . Not saying the EV aspect is bad, just the weight of this particular EV truck is an absolute joke off road . Maybe other trucks will come in at 5,000lbs. Again 7,500lbs with out gear and people is nuts. With ppl and gear it’s over 8,000 easy , Sorry too heavy.

one other point to consider is who the ppl reviewing it are. They so far have been given permission from rivian and probably are motivated to say the best. I’d wait till random owners start making YouTube reviews, ppl who are not rivian employees or influencers who haven’t been granted the truck for a few hours

I’m aware of people who are on rivians waiting list and only know of employees or influencers who have taken rivians out. No random unbiased real owners

Gave them the benefit of the doubt on the weight - evidently they aren't cutting as much as I would have expected.

EPA also says my truck is supposed to get 18-21mpg (270-315 miles). I'm lucky to get 200 miles (pre-modding).
I'll believe it when I see it, just like I said about Nikola's (or Lucid or whoever's) 1000HP 'Tesla killer'

Just going down a fire road in a F350 is miserable. My buddy in his would avoid potholes while I can blast right through them with the Taco.

The suspension looks awfully stiff with the Rivian especially after it is raised for more clearance, can’t imagine the air suspension in the high clearance mode is going to be very forgiving.

Found the info you were referencing.

48KWH/100miles => 375miles with 180kWH pack, maybe drop off another 4% efficiency due to the weight and round up to 50KWH/100 miles = 360 miles range.
That's 100% ideal conditions from what I could tell. Constant, relatively low highway speed for 8 hours non-stop. So ya, I'm still sticking close to my original bet in real world, city driving scenarios. I'll split the difference and say 250 miles - this time removing any facetiousness.

That still kills a lot of the adventure-esqueness of having a 4x4. Let's say you drive 300 miles to your location at which you expect to do some offroading before you can get to your campsite. Well now you have to find some motel nearby to charge for 24 hours (referencing Edmund's experiment) before you can feel safe enough to carry on. Though half a charge might get you enough - so 12 hours - spend a night at the motel that you wouldn't even need to consider with a classical truck.

I'm not hating on electric trucks at all - I think they'll be awesome. But read through the hype.

Most importantly is how hard you drive off road , you will easy see range drop down to less than 1/2. So even at full charge you are looking at 100 miles range in the sand / dirt . When I drive my model 3 performance hard for a long time , the range is around half.

This is the one and only legit review Of the rivian for off road use that exist on the internet .this lady’s review of the rivian they gave her team is very telling (she races in Baja so not some frail internet influencer internet off-roader who doesn’t know shit about literally anything ) :

You’ve said that you halve your model3 range if you drive it hard. I’ll point out that you are likely an outlier, just like someone rally driving a truck; the idea that @treyus30 gets 200 miles on a 21 gallon fuel tank (pre mods!) is wacky and not consistent with 99% of Tacoma users.

I do agree that most early reviewers are grey-area automotive journalists, ones that get flown out or early access to a vehicle and are thus incentivized to be less than frank and critical.

$71K is too rich for my blood either way.
