I just got a 21 off road last Friday and I don't intend to go off roading. For me, it was the only Tacoma I could find in the area that came in 4x4 with the double cab. It snows pretty heavy here in the winter so the 4x4 was a must.

I got a offroad, put pro suspension on it and I never go offroading with it. I got the offroad for the locker rear diff, and the crawl control, both of those come in handy when its snowy here in MN. The pro suspension I did just because it rides so much better than the stock suspension.

I believe they ended with the 2nd gen. But either way, you're correct. I was just hung up on the "prerunner" designation and so it didn't occur to me that they would just rebrand it.

I got the OR to make me look more awesome when I am parking at the Walmart or Academy Outdoors.

My dad has an TRD OR and never off road. His money, he’s loves the ride, so who cares what you do with what you buy.
Just be happy with what you buy and don’t settle. Heck, if I had the money, I would by this guitar. Just because I would buy it, doesn’t mean I’ll play on stage.

Didn't buy it for off roading so much as that was the model available. Would have gotten TRD Sport if available for less, but would like to try some light off roading and am definitely into over sand if I get the chance. Had a very used Range Rover and then Nissan Patrol while living in Qatar and used to go dune bashing and camping. Both manuals. Great fun. Also rented a Land Cruiser in Oman and did a little wadi bashing and drove the coast "road" to Sur.

I did the opposite and just bought a 2021 Sport. I like the skewwwp and body color trim. When this thing is less shiny and I decide to make it a plaything I'll just put better parts into it than Toyota does from the factory anyway.

I'm very good at mechanical, but bad at body and paint. Play to your strengths.

Technically most of what I'm on are "roads" but one needs to be in 4 wheel lo.

The OR stuff doesn't add a ton, but it's nice having the locker stock.

Well I've already done light off reading on mine and as for the SR5. I would have gotten that in your place, but at the very beginning. Now, I dont think is worth the hassle you'd go through. Savings wont be huge.

You dont have to off road your truck if you dont want to. But the features will still be there in case you need them.

Dont forget to engage 4Hi and 4Lo every now and then. Make those parts move once in a while.

Took first picture within 2 days of getting it. Went through mud, rock, ice. Second photo was within a week at the local dunes. I was so surprised with its ability to handle in different terrains. When I bought it, the deal ship tried offering me a paint protection add on and I was like, “this is an off road vehicle. What’s the point of that?”

get an SR5 and buy someone’s used OR suspension.

I would buy an OR mostly for the look, but 4x4 is all I really need.

I'm so tired of waiting for a Tacoma that I will settle for a SR5, Off Road or Sport as long as it's a color I like.

I bought the 4wd OR trim because my Wife and I want to do more road trips in northern Arizona and having 4wd may come in handy if we encounter any monsoon rain in the summer or snow in the winter. I don’t plan on doing any Rock climbing, but I do see some easy to moderate trail in the future. A SR5 or Sport would probably handle it, but who knows what shanaigans I may encounter

I assume you know that 4WD is NOT for any paved road type surfaces, regardless of weather...right? Binding the drivetrain on hard surfaces is bad joojoo.

Only way of get manual trans is off road 4x4 or sport 4x4 and off road was only option. 25k miles, ZERO off road. All on road.

hopefully this will eventually change. But here in south Florida there’s only mud pits and i am not interested in that.. I am more of mountains fire roads.. technical trails… and here there’s none of that…

4x4 is quite useful for paved roads covered with snow.
