I hope you are right, but I'd be shocked if a dealership let you out the door for $4k in that transaction, unless you found a dealer that charged you no dealer fees, paid you current market premium price on your trade (go on Vroom and Carvana, then double-check against KBB to get a ballpark number), and sold you the new one for MSRP. Who knows, maybe that unicorn exists somewhere.

I'd say it would be worth it. In 5 years that 2018 won't bring as much on resell... but the 2022 will.

Add up the depreciation loss for the 2018 and 2022 together. I'll bet it's not much difference between keeping the 18 for 5 more years or trading the 18 on a 22 and then trading the 22 on something else 5 years after. :notsure: Of course the 22 will likely include higher registration fees, additional dealer doc fees, higher insurance fees...

I doubt you will only be paying $4k.

You’re looking at around 10-15k in difference depending on your trade and your geographical market. I did it and don’t regret it. Dealer gave me a good deal and I have a brand new truck with all the kinks worked out. No recalls or anything. The transmission even sifts better.

    key differences:
Toyota app / smart truck (remote start, GPS tracking, remote lock, unlock, Wi-Fi hotspot , health reports etc)
    Power driver seat
Apple CarPlay / android heat unit
    Usb quick charge ports
    Led headlights / fog lights
    Led bed lights

you lose the little cubby on the left side of the dashboard and one storage box in the truck bed.

The last two years of any model vehicle hold the highest resale value and you get a brand new truck with warranty again. Just my 2 cents.

Probably best to recheck your math, dealerships could not stay in business agreeing to this $4k deal you're hoping they'll accept. Not in this current market for sure.

I don't see 10-15k there, but as long as you're happy that's all that matters.

I’m a fan of getting to no car payments as soon as possible. It sounds like OP still owes quite a bit on the 2018. If that’s the case then it may be worth it to do it now and put your payments into the new one.

Yeah, it would probably be closer to $10K for trading in. My current Tacoma is all paid off and I'd just pay cash for the difference of what I owed should I go down this path.

There were a couple mentions of the 2022 having a much higher resale than my current 2018. Is that being said only because of the 4 year difference? Cuz that makes logical sense. Or is it because of all the additional features on the 2022?
