How would that that part have gotten so rusty? I suspect water damage; The car has a clear title, but that doesn't mean shit anymore...

The crank pulley looks a bit rusty, hard telling what the car had been exposed to over the years.

I'm not letting Gwyn hear the end of this; The car gave off a bad vibe from the moment I first laid eyes on it, and I was never consulted about it before she bought it...

I’ve not hauled an automotive engine in the bed of my current truck.
And can’t say that I want, mostly because that means I’m going to be involved with the install.
And quite frankly, I’d rather not do that type of work if I don’t have to. Lol
I’ve done it enough, I’m good for awhile.

I was hauling this oversized boat anchor to the Subaru owner's house so her teenaged son can tear it apart, LOL!

There are plenty of them here in CT, but when I'm up in Maine it sometimes seems like every other vehicle on the road is a Subaru.

Don't want to disctiminate against a large group of people due to the make of vehicle they drive, but in my experience Subaru drivers comprise a grossly disproportionate % of head up ass drivers.

My friend wanted a Subaru because she totaled her previous Subaru and walked away without a scratch; I think Subarus are good vehicles, but I am still giving my friend grief for buying this particular one, which has proven itself to be a polished turd...

Those late 90’s and early 2000’s 2.5 engines were know to blow gaskets.
Not sure what her that one is, but they had issues.

I also agree, I’m skeptical on high mileage Subaru transmission.
Most people I talk to say to stick with the manual transmission.

The car at center of this discussion has a slushbox, and there's no telling what condition it's in after seeing the condition of the original engine!

Maybe she should have bought a Toyota 86 is she wanted a Subaru?
At least then we can accept her as part of the “Yoda Family”?

Frankly, I'd unload the engine at Gywn's son's house then walk away. Wash your hands of the engine/tranny/Subaru issues.

I dropped off the engine, but it's not my car; I told her she should get rid of it, but there's not much else I can do because like I said it's not my car. And also, it's not Gwyn's son's house, it's Gwyn's house...

    Where ever the location.

Wash your hands of it and walk away. If she wants a Subaru, then that is her choice. Offer no comment unless SHE asks for your thoughts.

Which she is going to do; Her boyfriend is also giving her shit for buying the red Forester (the one this motor came out of) on a whim.

That car (or at least that engine) spent a good part of its life in the rust belt.

Yeah, after talking to a friend who worked as a mechanic for many years (before getting CDL and becoming a truck driver), we've determined that is the case; What confounds me is that my Taco just got it's frame replaced, but that there wasn't really much under the hood in the way of rust like this Forester had...

I suspect that's probably mostly to do with the vehicle design; the boxer engine sits much lower, and road crap is more likely to get flung up from the wheels, fan, etc.
