All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
Or putting it into low range and thinking you got a crawl box for a moment. I have done some serious accents and descents with these gears, and they have a huge benefit to my crawling.

I have yet to do that as I just passed the 500mile mark and changed the fluids. Am I good to 4wheeling again in 4low or should wait till i hit the 1k mark? I think it was just no heavy towing until 1k?

Redbubble. Not the greatest stickers in the world, but they work.

    https://www.redbubble.com/i/sticker...g-and-Pinion-Swap-by-arkantero/82989430.EJUG5

I used an exacto knife and cut around the round portion of the sticker, so that is the only part I will use. I ordered the transparent one. If you don't cur around it, the transparent sticker is pretty noticeable.

You wanna wait to wheel hard. Rolling down FSR is fine, and what you should do. You right now your gears are mating together and it’s key to heat cycle them, replace the oil (look for metal shavings on the magnet).
You want to run the truck in 4wd and treat that the same as the rear. Break them in proper to avoid any damage.

Hello everyone... New Tacoma owner here, reading up on all this awesome information. Not enough time in the day, so much! :)
I am looking to get some 5.29's cryo'd/cryogenically treated.

Found a place to do the cryo, yet they are asking that I provide them a 'recipe', and they can only go as low as -120 F.
That seems ok, although I have no idea where to find the best recipe. Forum search was not forthcoming here on TW.

Would anyone be so kind to recommend a recipe source, and verify if -120 F is sufficient?
Thank you very much, in advance!

5.29s and 35s are a beautiful combo. My MTRs are louder than my previous ridge grapplers so I really don't hear the howl over the tires now. Stock gearing + 33s had better gas mileage than 5.29s and 33s, but 5.29s + 35s have better gas mileage than 5.29s and 33s.

Feels better than it was stock.

Contact Charles at cryogenics international. Steel needs about -300 degrees and I’m not sure what a recipe is for.

-120 is more for medical stuff.

    Thank you @Texoma , @rlx02 , and @JoeCOVA !
Running almost 33" (Coopers) on an AT, and not much weight yet, but would like to get this done before other mods. Though some have said 4.88 might be best for 33" and under, thinking this will be ok.

We’re biased. I’ll say that more people who have 4.88s wish they had 529s than vice versa.

Both options are better than stock but 5.29 gives you a bit more

Is there a good calculator anywhere that is setup for a 3rd gen tacoma?

I'm currently on 265/70/17 tires, and want to go to 285/75/17. Basically 32" to 34" Going 529s at the same time.

Truck is tuned currently, and drives great. I'm hoping after the tire increase and gear reduction, that the gearing will be closer to stock if not better (lower) than stock by just a little bit. At least to outweigh the weight of the tires.

I am on 33s currently rolling with 5.29s. My truck rides out! I went with 5.29s because I have a GFC, armor and pull shit. Truck is beast now! “What’s that you said?! I can’t hear you over the gear whine!” Lol, I said ITS BEAST

Just installed gears today. I have 285/70/17 no armor or anything crazy just bed rack. I tow jet skis a bit in the summer time, let me tell you guys first impressions are insane the truck should come stock with 5.29. It shifts so direct and smooth with purpose and actually feels like a normal truck. No more sluggish feeling. I don’t have to have my foot in the pedal anymore to keep the truck moving, it’s so nice best money spent on the Tacoma. Now to get my tune switched and Speedo recalibrated lol

Congrats @whatisraytaco! Waiting on mine to ship to Charles at cryogenics international, then hoping to have the install done at Rearend Specialties in Santa Clara.

I cannot wait to experience this. I am having my lift and 285's put on next week so hopefully by the weekend, monday the latest I will have my truck ALMOST done. I have to suffer with the stock gearing until mine gets here probably another month or so. Ugh.... I already dislike the stock gearing on a stock setup.

Leaning towards 75W-90 for the fluid at 500.

I am also getting sound dampening (& audio stuff) done same time as the gears, lol. By then I will also have my bedrug in and the tonneau cover goes on next week too. What gear whine?
Honestly I'm more interested in drowning out the sound of the magical v6 exhaust on this truck. It's like a civic, but a truck... If I give it too much I worry about the young kid in the ricer next to me thinking I am trying to race with all that bad ass sound from muh tailpipe.

I cannot express how satisfying it is the first time driving the truck up an incline. Best thing I’ve done to the truck.

^^^second this. Just got my 5.29s in yesterday. It's truly incredible how different it is pulling small hills and inclines. its a completely different truck now. 100% the best thing I've done to the truck. pairing it soon with a KDMAX tune as well.

    Hi all,

Great thread. Thanks for your contributions

Can anyone recommend a shop for this install in the PNW? Washington state or British Columbia, CANADA would be ideal (my home)
