At some point you stop caring. That cap is way more useful to me than how cool I look driving a mid sized truck.

    I feel your pain.
My wife got cold in our roof top tent and said the truck was riding kind of rough off-road.

Tail between my legs, absolutely pussy whipped, I sauntered off to the basement and sadly ordered an Alucab canopy camper with a fireplace, and a full OME BP-51 suspension.

Even that wasn't good enough, she said the truck looked weird with the stock bumper. She told me to order a full front bumper, with a warn winch, and rigid light bar.

She's a terrible woman and I despise her everyday.
    She made me do this.

You don’t rest Chekhov’s gun on the mantle or whatever unless it is going to serve a purpose. There’s a reason you said the damaging comment came from a chick you once dated instead of “someone who once told me this thing.”

Your girlfriend is the gun in the story. We’re just trying to figure out what it represents so we can help.

Honest question for you guys with toppers on your trucks, from someone who drove an Xterra for the last decade before buying my Tacoma:

Why drive a truck with a topper when you could have an SUV?

If your answer is "the topper is removable," how often do you take it off?

Not trying to stir the pot, just genuinely curious.

I have a topper because bikes and dirty smelly stuff go in the bed of the truck. Plus my wife when she talks sh!t about my truck. After a camp trip, my old SUV used to smell like a locker room for a week. Keeping separate "compartments" and more room were the primary reasons I got a Taco over a 4runner.

My Xterra had hard plastic in the back, so... hose no, wet towel yes. But for most SUVs with carpet in the back, that's a fair point for sure.

I view the covered bed of my truck kind of like a coat room in a house. It's inside my truck, and secure, so I don't mind leaving valuable stuff around, but its also where I try to leave all the dirty stuff so I don't track it in to the rest of the truck.

I considered a 4Runner, but they command a price premium, even on top of a Tacoma TRD Pro, that I simply wasn't comfortable with (4Runner OR = Taco Pro). More importantly, you can't get one with a manual transmission, which was a hard requirement for me. Lastly, I sleep in the back of my truck regularly during trips, and comparing the cost of canopy + sleeping platform, or maybe in the future a tonneau and RTT, it still came out cheaper than a 4Runner, but with more flexibility for cargo carrying if I choose to pull everything off.

Taco is just a newer truck in general as well. The interior is an entire generation ahead of the 4Runner, and the LED headlights are amazing.

I think it comes down to finding someone that aligns with your hobbies, goals, beliefs, interests etc. Instead of focusing on material things.

Forcing it does not work and mentioned in my previous post.

Picking up a shell soon. I will embrace the van look. Mine is at least a black alu-cab so it has a bit more of an interesting look.
