You should see some of the prices for industrial stuff right now, it's outrageous. We're doing a roller/bearing upgrade to several pieces of equipment and I imagine the cost are through the roof. We're also slated to rebuild several sorters in 2022. Ain't gonna be cheap this coming year for our maintenance department o_O

I'm way removed from that world now.

My (pre-pandemic) boss was always amazed at the cost of items perceived as fairly simple, pump parts for example. I would always say "lets see you make one in your garage".

    Good morning friends!

Some of you know this and some of you don’t, my name is Shane and I’m an alcoholic.

I watched my dad drink for many years and I turned into him at 20 years old drinking every chance I got. I didn’t drink to drink, I drank to get drunk. If I had a 12 pack, a case, or a bottle I thought I had to drink it all and I did.

My wife and I lost our first child to a miscarriage, I was drunk the night it happened. When my wife got pregnant with our son I told her if he grows up to be an alcoholic he wasn’t learning it from his dad like I did from mine.

Today is 10 years of sobriety for me. Not one beer, nothing. I don’t have a problem with people drinking, I have a problem with me drinking. I don’t blame anyone for my drinking, I put every drink in my mouth. I can’t drink or I’ll get drunk so I choose not to.

My name is Shane and I’m a sober alcoholic. Stay safe my friends

That sir is one of the best things I’ve read in here… I am so so very happy.

I come from a alcoholic family. Drinking for breakfast etc.
    It destroyed my childhood.
    Parents got divorced yada yada.
    My dad wouldn’t stop…
I promised, like you, the buck stops here.
I never drank. I can count on 3 fingers how many beers I have had in my life.
The only reason is it was sooo hot and nothing else was available.
To you sir, I have nothing but the highest respect for you.

Congratulations Shane. Thank God you were able to stop. I grew up with an alcoholic father and it was a challenge.

Some folks go their entire life without ever accepting responsibility for their own actions.
You not only accepted the responsibility but also changed your life and then make a personal effort to be an example and help others.

Congratulations on your milestone Shane, you are a stand up guy, respect my friend.

My story is similar to your Shane. I first quit in 1994 and stayed sober for 20 years. Made a terrible decision that things would be different and I could drink just a little....didn't work out too good. Now sober again since beginning of 2017.
Congratulations bud. A old timer (recovering) once told me," we are the fortunate ones". I didn't understand so asked him, he said because many never figure it out and spend a lifetime of abuse.

I quit once for 2 years in 2003/2004ish and bought a 12 pack telling myself "I'll only drink one or two" well that didn't work out and took me a few more years to get it right

Positive changes. I actually have a cousin that was a inspiration to me. He quit drinking before I did and then started back a little before me....
He hasn't been able to quit again:pout:
He asked me how did I quit again and it seem easy, I told him just by knowing and being able to see how much better off I was, how much better I felt, not waking up with a feeling of need to get a little hair of the dog that bit me.

I have to admit that every now and then in the summer I do like a nice cold beer. Then I may not have another for quite awhile.

My uncle (moms brother) lived with my parents after my grandparents passed when he was 8 years old (before I was born). He is 10 years older than me, he was an alcoholic (don't know if he still is or not) I never could figure out why he wouldn't get out of bed on Saturday mornings until lunch. I know now :D

    Congrats!!!
I started at 15 and within no time I was getting drunk as often as possible. Same as you; my dad was a drunk, I was a drunk and my brother was a drunk (my brother still is). When my gf (now my wife) got offered a job several hundred miles away (and took it ) due to me being drunk all the time, I decided I may need to make some changes in my life. If there is something harder to do than quit drinking when you're a drunk...I don't know what it is. Next year will be 30 years for me, and it just keeps getting easier.
You've made the best decision you could possibly make. Be proud, be sober! Here's to many more decades of tea, soda and any other non-alcohol drinks you might enjoy!

Massive congrats to those of you that have kicked drinking to the curb. I've never gone through it but I know it's not easy.

To those of you still working on it, you'll get there.
