That's the one reason I leaned towards this one, wireless. I'm weird about having cables connected to my dash, and strung all over the place. Call it OCD. Wireless works great! Connect it one time via wired, set up bluetooth, then you are done. Having a full EQ is nice too.

I travel a lot, so CarPlay is great to have. I use Waze, but I've tried Waze and Apple Maps both work great! I like having Spotify right on my dash. Radio works great too, although I rarely listen to the radio. This unit is packed with features I'll never use. If you hot spot or get a 4G sim you can have internet right on the dash. I'm not down for all that, but will be nice to hot spot if I'm waiting for my wife in the Target parking lot for 2 hours. At least I can spool up Sling TV and watch a movie.

    I strictly use CarPlay.

Thanks for the great feedback! Im going to order through Amazon, do I need to state anything specific? I have a 2018 TRD Sport with the non-JBL 7" screen. Not sure if I need to specify this when buying?

Do you get call and text notifications on the screen when using CarPlay? I would also only use this for CarPlay and wouldnt have a 4G card installed.

I just looked it up on Amazon for a 2018 Tacoma and ordered it. Came with everything I needed sans the brackets, which I reused my OEM radio brackets. Texts and calls worked just as intended through carplay. You shouldn't need to specify anything, IIRC you can find them about $20-30 cheaper on eBay.

Great to hear! Did you install the external mic? I read that it isn't needed? What is IIRC?

I did not receive a external mic, the one of the faceplate works just fine. IIRC (if I recall correctly)

No problem! Overall at this time I couldn't justify spending $1000+ on a Pioneer + Maestro. I'm sure they are far superior, but my requirements were met with this Joying unit.

Any install tips? It seems like I just remove the 4 10MM bolts from OEM unit, unplug wires, then plug wires into Joying, and re-attach the 4 10MM bolts. Do any wires not need to be re-connected? I want to ensure my steering wheel controls continue to work.

Also, did you connect the USB adapter so the factory USB can be used for wired CarPlay/Android Auto?

It's fairly simple, I watched a couple videos on youtube about it, but this thread has just as good install instructions. My steering wheel controls work just fine, I checked it all before I mounted the radio permanently. I did use the USB adapter, and it does work. Just pay attention to which harness has the rca for cam out, and my rear camera works great.

Awesome, thank you! I was looking for an install video on YT but couldnt find one. I'll read thru this thread (all 50 pages!) to make sure I understand how to install.

The other android radio installs use a similar harness. Just make sure the video is for the 3rd gen and should be applicable.

About 20 pages back or so a member detailed using painters tape to help flush up the display to the bezel, super install tip to cement the install.

Also, if you happen to be installing a subwoofer amp, consider getting an rca 2 to 1 adapter as the unit only has a mono rca output.

One other thing to consider, there is a USB adapter for your lower dash USB to function, consider getting a usb extension for the 2nd USB output so that you can easily in the future add other USB devices as to not take up the only USB port. I added a USB splitter so in case I need a bunch of devices hooked up I can.

    Hope these install tips help!

Thanks for the tips! Can you talk a little more about the 2nd USB output? Im guessing the unit comes with a USB extension and you are saying to buy another so I can have access to a 2nd USB? Would I run the 2nd USB out of the top bezel for power? I currently use a dual USB in my cig lighter but it sounds like the Joying has a 2nd USB option for power only?

The tape allows you to pull the face plate flush when you do install the bezel. The bezel will push the face in a little bit because its such a tight fit, you pull on the tape till its flush, then pull at a angle to remove the tape.

If yours comes with that extension yes I would install that while you have the unit out in case you want to add any other devices. I've taken mine out probably 10 times for various reasons, but if you're hoping for 1 and done trying to future proof things may be helpful.

And yes there is one master usb port to input to the headunit, and there is another usb that serves to power usb devices yes.

Got it, that makes sense. Where did you run the 2nd USB out of? I have cut a small hole on the top of the bezel (not visible when sitting in truck) to run a USB already. Im thinking I could use that existing hole to run the 2nd USB.
