Having pretty much made the same thing this week I can attest that it needs severe reinforcement. I’m still contemplating the best way. Waiting to do some tube to see if I want to try to bridge the gap that way or double up behind the plate. You can kick the winch and watch it wobble as it is currently…

In the current configuration, the two lower bolts near the middle, next to the shackle mounts, are doing 90% of the work.

Warfab bumpers run a tube from the outer corners to the front of the winch plate. That gives it the strength, but requires a tube bender for DIY.

One relatively simple modification would be to weld a tube section around each of the bolt holes on the end (the tube ID being large enough to fit a washer and the socket). Then extend the winch plate to the tube, with an appropriate cutout in the winch plate for the A/C line:

Don't have to look that far. The TC shock hoops are like that:

Of course, welding a plate to the side of a tube is less work than notching a tube to meet up with another tube.

I honestly was just hoping. Just goes to show that it’s all a sham.

And I’ll have to figure out this problem too…..great.

Start with a CAD mockup (cardboard-aided design). Toilet paper cores may simulate the tubing

I'm planning to pick up some rear shocks over Christmas. I know the shocks I want (Fox 985-24-117), but I'm wondering weather to get the plastic guards or boots to protect the exposed shaft. Do you guys have any suggestions?

I'm leaning towards the boots as it looks like the guards might collect mud and rocks between the guard and the shaft. I don't know how much protection the boots will provide against rocks kicked up by the tires though.

    upload_2021-12-8_18-45-14.jpg upload_2021-12-8_18-46-35.jpg

If I go with guards, I'll get the Fox guards, but if I go with boots, which ones do I get? I cannot find any that say they are for 2.0 bodied shocks. They all say universal fit, but is that for stock shocks? The shocks I'll be getting have 2.0 shock bodies, and are longer than stock.

Not sure how solid the guards are but I would probably go that route cause of my recent bit of bad luck:

Also I've heard the boots can hold moisture/dirt in and cause more issues but I have no personal experience with this

Thanks, the guards are plastic, so I'm not sure they would have prevented an impact that could damage the shock body, but they might do more then the boots.
