Hello everyone. I've been researching a bunch of threads that have turned up inconclusive but have given me some ideas as to what is going on with my truck. I have a 2014 single cab tacoma with a 3 inch old man emu lift and 235/85/16s. I've got spc control arms up front and brand new oem lower control arms I just had replaced up front. Also had the ECGS bushing done too. Anytime I go around a corner with my wheels turned in just the right spot either left or right and at the right speed I get this grind/dull gritty rolling noise up front. I took it to my mechanic and he said he could find nothing wrong with it but I know my truck front and back and something isn't right. The strange thing is the truck has to be a just the right speed/turn angle to make the noise. I checked the front bearings my self by jacking it up and no rough bearings or anything. CV's look good too. Any ideas what it could be. I just ordered new koyo hub assemblies off ebay from a seller named maggie8 so I'm going to try to replace those and see if it helps. Could it be a CV just starting to go bad? Usually a CV clicks when I've heard them go bad before. Anyways thanks in advance and I attached a picture

This is the angle the wheel has to be at to consistently hear the noise

Are the tires rubbing on the mudflaps?

No I removed all them a long time ago and I looked around for spots where it could be rubbing and there are not rubbing spots and tons of clearance turning. The front little flaps have plenty of clearance and there are no shiny spots where they could be rubbing

Are you sure you're not over 3" of lift? Side shot of the front wheel/fender might help.

I'd suspect a cv axle going bad. Could buy 1 from Napa for cheap and see if that fixes it. Worse case you have a trail spare.

Sure thing I've posted a picture with it. Tommorow I can crawl underneath and get a picture of the CV angle and post that too. From what I've seen my CV axle angles are actually pretty good but that's based on pictures of what people say is a good angle on this forum.

Not the greatest photo but here's another. Tommorow when it's light out I'll grab some more. Are the new (not reman) cv axles from Napa any good? I was looking at oem ones and the cheapest I could find was around 340 each . I have the money but jeez it's expensive. I always strive to buy the best parts I can afford but I can get both new CV axles from Napa for about 200 for BOTH instead of 340 for one. I just don't want to replace another axle 20,000 miles down the road as I travel remote places a lot and don't need an axle dying on me.

IMO napa is the best bet aside from OEM. I blew through 2 Autozone cv axles and a Cardone cv axle in the last year on my LC 100. I'm gambling on Napa next.

OEM reman is another option, but those are usually just new boots and new grease.

Well maybe I'll just go to Napa and order 2 new CV axles then. I think I'm going to have my two front hubs replaced and both CV axles then. The truck has 120,000 miles on original hubs/CV's so maybe they are just getting tired...

Hope I don't steer you in the wrong direction. But if you do get Napa ones, keep your originals if possible.

How did you check the wheel bearings? Grabbing the tire at 12 and 6 isn't always going to show anything obvious

Try this instead. Lift the front wheels off the ground and spin the tire by hand as quickly as you can while holding the knuckle. If you feel roughness through the knuckle that's a bad bearing, it should be whisper quiet and smooth. Compare side to side. If one side is smooth and the other side is rough(er) the rough side is a bad bearing
