To answer your question that rod you speak of is well contained in the handle. Nothing comes out. The main button and spring are housed within the handle. If you guys would like more clearer pictures or have any questions.

Thank you for the reply, so the button is within the handle. So the button came off as well . It appears that the handle has a slit down the middle (I guess it was bend from the factory that way) where the rod/cable is housed. If you happen to have additional pictures please post them and again thank you!

No, nothing come apart. The only item that "came off" was the rubber cover. When i installed the new ebreak handle the new button simply went on top of the old one. I would assume any universal ebreak handle would fit.

No worries dude. It was just a very simple pull up. Just open you center console and pull. There are tons of videos on the tube. Do make sure you remove your shifter knob first.

I was able to install an aluminum billit grip knockoff TRD black brake handle I picked up on Ebay on my '16 TRD Sport tonight in about 30 minutes. Only had to make some minor mods to the spring for the new button, but other than that was pretty basic. I was able to pull off my stock handle by hand twisting it with not much force. Had nowhere near the issues previous posters in here did. Maybe mine didn't leave the factory with enough epoxy, but didn't even need to razor cut or heat gun it as I was expecting to, it popped off in one piece. Happy with the look and feel of the new one. Last 2 pics are of the stock rubber grip I removed.

We're you able to just pull it ?, what adjustments did you have to make ?, I also want to replace mine but a previous poster had a lot of trouble removing the plastic oem one.
    Thanks for letting us know.

I was seriously just able to pull and twist it and it came off completely clean. There is definitely some type of adhesive holding it on, but with twisting and pulling it popped off shockingly easy. Just gave it a little muscle, but even then barely any. Didn't even have any adhesive left of the metal handle. I could have, and still could put the old one back on no problem. I did have to take off the center console area like the previous poster, and like i said the one I bought did not have a button that would go over the existing button. I had to unscrew the button, take the spring out and reset it in the handle to get the button on for the new one. Put everything back together and all is great.
