its crazy how insurance companies come up with rates sometimes.

for example, my 2010, DC, 4x4 is $200 cheaper per year to insure than my wifes 2006 scion TC. we both are the same age, no accidents, no tickets, and exact same coverage on both vehicles.

    go figure.

Access Cab probably has more claims against it versus the double cab. Less claims = less premiums. That's in addition to all the extra airbags.

The theory is the same as 2 door coupes vs 4 door cars. 4 door cars are 'family' cars...2 door coupes are 'sporty' cars.

Not that theories like that matter...the insurance company as actual crash and citation data that they use. If it supports the theory...bingo.

There are lots of variables that could cause rates to go up or in your case down. The most common reasons for a premium to go down are:
    1. You have purchased a home
    2. You have been married
    3. You are "older" now
    4. You have lost any chargable accidents or insurance points you may have had
    5. You are driving a "safer" car ie: abs brakes, multiple airbags, glass etching, VSC, burgular alarm, etc
    6. You have not had any "incedents" that would impact your premium in the last 3 year's.

Like I said, there are many reasons this may happen. Hope this makes sense

I know others answered your question, but I'll just add that my quick explanation may or may not be the cause in your case. But to explain further...The insurance industry takes a look at each model and uses the accident rates for those models to some extent in basing their rates. Ours varies from year to year because of either increased accidents or decreased accidents across the nation with our model. If there's more accidents and the costs to repair those vehicles is high, then we pay higher premiums. We get a letter to this effect spelling it out if our rates go up (which they've done before in the past and sometimes they've even gone down as a result). No different than buying a sports car versus a truck. While you can find two that are the probably the same purchase price, which one are you going to pay a higher premium on? That's right, the sports car. But it's not because of what it is, but rather a higher incidence of accidents requiring repairs (I'll admit, that may be a bad example with the higher volume of people owning trucks now and probably a lot more accidents and damage). And you know they do this at the model trim level because they want the VIN to lookup the trim level (2wd vs 4wd, TRD vs SR5 vs Base, etc) aside from other reasons.
