2JZs are popular motor swaps in these 90s cars

It's all perspective. I was born in 81 so 90 & 00s cars are my generations muscle cars. I'm a huge fan of 60s and very early 70s cars but stock for stock for 90 & 00s cars will whip the old muscles in anything... besides value. They're on the rise though. Go check what a clean fox body goes for.

And I'd love to see the shape a 2500 69 Challenger is in. Doubt he'll only be 15-20K into a finished car. Even doing everything himself.

My friend in high school had a 95ish SSEI and it would stomp on our other friends 305 TBI Camaro.

Meh. I'd say "better" is a matter of opinion in this case. A MKIV Supra is pretty amazing platform. I can't think of many 70's cars that can make 900hp reliably with only bolt-ons.

    THAT is very cool!

I was literally 15 minutes late when I lost out on a '77 Monza Spyder 305 4speed car back in '79.
Essentially a re-skinned Vega with a factory small block.
Probably would still have it today if I scored it.

I think the 70's vs 90's car debate will depend on the age of the poster; I'm 45 so grew up driving and fixing old 70's cars (3 Corollas, and a mint 1977 Celica GT Fastback, a Datsun 260Z, and others) while reading all about 90's cars in Road and Track and Car&Driver. Now, as an adult I appreciate the quantum leap made between 1974 and 1990. I love fuel injection and breakerless ignitions. McPherson struts are excellent, and rack and pinion is way better than worm and ball. Discs vs. Drum? Pfft, who uses drums anymore:rofl:.
Not to mention safer and way less polluting (yes, I do care; I don't like being behind a carbon monoxide belching car or truck.)
    OBDII... Hell yeah!
Just compare a 1976 Camaro to a 1996 Camaro. Night and day.
I just wanted SOMETHING as a collector car, and wanted it to be manual tranny. This was the first thing that checked all the boxes. Unless I need the truck (the car has collector plates so can't be used for driving to work or school,) I use this car.
What are the rules regarding collector plates in different states? Here in BC Canada, collector plates equal about an 80% decrease in insurance costs, but the cars must be very clean and unmodified, and can't be driven to work or school.
Here's my "muscle" car. 1991 Toyota Tercel.
And for the record, Toyota made some stinker engines in the early 90's. This and the 4 cyl. Camry engine were prone to sludge buildup.
While tuning up this beauty, I learned a lot about the tech Toyota put into their cars at the time; the fuel management is regulated by the o2 sensor, water temp, and manifold vacuum. There is no MAF sensor.
Getting parts for what is undoubtedly one of Toyotas least popular models has been a challenge. I had to do the shocks and springs, and only tracked some down in Texas.

I would choose 70's Datsuns over any 70's car. Whether its american, euro or japanese.

Yup. I had a '74 260Z. I kinda consider the Z car as the pinnacle, attainable Japanese sports car, closely followed by the last gen Supra.
