Hello TW, today I had one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I have ever had and need to vent some steam. Today I took my truck into a local mechanic named The Toy Doctor here in Denver Colorado. I went in for an oil change and inspection. A few months ago I had them replace my timing belt at a reasonable price so I already had a positive experience with this shop, they use only OEM parts and seemed competent. They changed my oil and found play in my drivers side wheel bearing which I had expected. They quoted me $1300 to replace it! I already researched this and understood Toyota doesn’t sell the complete assemblies so most shops charge for pressing out the old bearings and pressing in a new one. When I asked them to give me a breakdown of labor cost and parts cost they flat out refused. When I asked if they would install a pre assembled koyo bearing and doorman assembly they refused stating they couldn’t warranty the parts. Fair enough however their warranty is only 24 months with the OEM parts anyway. It’s fine I understood why they refused however the front desk lady got angry at me and became incredibly rude. She literally told me “I’m sorry you can’t afford quality service”. Btw this was as I was paying for my service, literally handing her my card. She acted like I was an idiot stating “go to grease monkey if you want cheap prices”. Keep in mind I was asking them to install OEM parts. I immediately called TOYEXUS who quoted me $400 for labor and I am going to order bluepit bearings pre assembled hub assembly online for $280. They use koyo bearings and doorman hub assembly, they have plenty of good reviews. Is $400 adequate for labor? Seemed fair to me. So $680 total vs $1300 that the Toy Doctor wanted to charge. If you live in CO stay away from the Toy Doctor. Anybody else here use bluepit bearings before?

Doorman is a really crappy, koyo is meh …. If your going todo the job and want to keep your truck for a while, use oem stuff. I have to agree that shit customer service is a turn off big time but sometimes you can turn off your mechanic when you start questioning them. I’d say just go somewhere else but please don’t put that doorman shit on your rig.

If a service advisor can’t take a simple question without getting mad they shouldn’t be in service. What brand bearing does OEM use, I thought it was koyo, which are made in Japan. Now I see blue pit sells a more expensive version for $339 using OEM but still used koyo as the bearing. Will probably use the TW vendor as the price is slightly better.
