What are you streaming on Amazon, Netflix, etc?

Came here to post this! Absolutely crazy!

 

I really was pleasantly surprised by the first and second seasons of Lost in Space. It found this weird balance between family entertainment, the "wonder" at the root of all good sci-fi, and just plain good story writing. I'll admit that by the end of season 2, the constant crises all the time was wearing thin, even with tongue in cheek jokes about it.

Only watched the first episode on the 3rd season so far. I was ok, but I found myself wincing a bit at times. Hmm, maybe I don't get my hopes up for the rest. World building is still somewhat decent though.

Gave WOT a second chance. Fell asleep before I could make it through the first episode. The gender role reversal for this genre doesn't work. The genre is also getting played out. GOT pretty much took a steaming dump on fantasy fiction by the end of the series.

Shadow and Bone is better by far, as far as your common run-of-the-mill heroine-driven fiction goes.

Achane on Netflx is okay given the source material, but I am tiring of female characters that have the muscle density of a chimpanzee crossed with kangaroo. Fight scenes where mass does not have an overwhelming advantage, as it does in real life, is getting dumb.

 

Watched The Alpinist, pretty good if you’re into climbing/adventure docs.

All this talk of 8-bit Christmas, anybody remember that movie The Wizard with Fred Savage that was basically just one big Nintendo/Power Glove/Mario 3 commercial. Oh how I miss the 80’s.

 

Honestly, one of my favs. I’m rewatching again.

 

I actually didn't like and could not finish GOT.

With WOT if they don't make Rand the Dragon, then I'm done. There is no true gender role reversal, but they have some gay Warders which is completely stupid and they keep emphasizing woman power and wokeness. There is none of that in the books. AT ALL. Point being WOT is NOT heroine driven - equal and unequal in many ways.

 

I was big fan of GOT until the season that Theon gets tortured. I think it was the season where the writers strayed from the books. It dawned on me that the show had devolved to bad people doing bad things to other bad people. Just sadistic nihilism all the time. I didn't bother with the last two seasons.

Holy crap, someone else said it, i agree, the 3rd season of Lost in Space is a huge dog turd. A dog turd thats been rained on all day and you cant even pick it up with a shovel anymore, so you leave it to become part of the lawn. So bad. You can fast forward through 90 percent of each episode and not miss a thing.

 

You know when everyone is begging for another season.......writers don't care to make their finest!

 

I might be the only one on here who enjoyed it.

 

Nothing wrong with that. I like the part when Smith was in cryo sleep. She was as irritating as the original Dr Smith guy in the 1960s! (Hey I watched TV show when I was a kid and LOVED it. Lost In Space was my favorite!

 

Netflix has a show called "Love Death and Robots" that i thought was amazing. Watched the full two seasons, if you like unique animated art styles or relatively introspective/unique shows, i would recommend giving it a watch. None of the episodes are related, and all are very different in terms of animation style and plot.

 

About four episodes in, Wheel of Time is starting to grab us. Thought I don't know how that show constantly feels both too fast, and too slow at the same time.

 

There are 14+ books so lots of details. I guess season one covers 3 books..............but that is just a skimming really. If it follows the books, it has to get better, IMHO.

 

We are watching (Sir Edmond) Hillary on PBS. Dude was a stud, Tenzing and all those guys. WOW.

 

Yeah, I liked it.

 

On the same theme we watched 14 Peaks on Netflix.

Pretty much a must watch - inspiration, mountain climbing, holy shit................with some (little) racial stuff thrown in (they didn't need to do that, but ok)

 

The Expanse - still as good as ever.

WOT - Episode 6. Pretty sure Morraine and Siune were NOT lesbian lovers. And if they continue with the Dragon could be a female shtick Ima quit watching. So stupid! They are ruining it. They really are.

 

I mean lesbian pr0n might sell, but not like this. I am not anti whatever TF the movements are these days, but don't fuck with my Wheel of Time.

 

Exactly. People are free to love whom they want. But why change a good story?? The STORY does not need help.
