The fucking media, I swear it is an intentional tool used to propagate financial ignorance. I'm poking through stuff on Marketwatch this AM and headline:

"Stock futures rise despite highest inflation in 39 years"

Well, dinglefuck, that would be expected since the *currency units* that the stock prices are *denominated in* are now worth *less* while the value of the underlying security is *unchanged*, meaning it SHOULD take more dollars to buy a given share. That's the whole point of investing in securities in the first place - to mitigate inflation effects on your wealth.

 

Yep. Same tactic different byline. It's a never ending cycle of controlling a narrative.

 

Folks whose pay is far behind the year over year inflation rate of 6.8% aren’t going “whew”, this does not bode well for consumers OR the market long term.

 

Yep - although the market may be fine due to the international presence of so many important US companies. If you work for wages without much in the way of nest egg this is going to hurt.

If the government's behavior over the last 20 years has made anything abundantly clear, it is that they will sacrifice anything, including the Dollar, to prop up the stock and real estate markets as well as the pension funds they underpin. Similarly, this inflation will make the unfunded liabilities from Medicare and Social Security more feasible for the Federal budget. That SS check will buy much less, but on paper people will perceive that they are getting the number they're supposed to get because the general public does not think in terms of real buying power.

The overall point? Old people vote, and politicians are scared to death of pissing them off, meaning their income, benefits, and wealth will be protected at all costs. Want to get ahead financially? Act like an elderly retiree when it comes to your money.
